In the U.S. the automotive legal system is heavily weighted towards the consumer meaning that Mercedes would get whacked with a great big fine if they don't sort it.

Consumer rights are taken more seriously in the US maybe.

But "fire risk" is usually life threatening and such recalls should apply to all, not just US consumers.

It's probably the earthing wire on the tailight assembly problem . Evidently its a "corrosion issue" although this Aussie [ good on ya mate] reckons its the gauge of the earth wire/size of fixing used. Anyway here is the DIY fix should you want to either fix it or simply inspect it for the overheating issue .
