I have a gearbox issue i think, the atf was low (2 litres) so i went to MB to check the gearbox etc. Iwas a bit miffed by the whole visit. I went to MB to absolutely make sure i got the codes read properly and get the right info out of them that i need to make the repairs or whatever i needed. I got a report stating that there were no faults in the gearbox. My akse sensor was faulty and quoted 560 euro to replace. Nearly 500 euro might fix my gearbox issue with a flush but maybe not and that i should go to a gearbox specialist. Thanks for your money and we don't know so go elsewhere.
When i posted the question about the camber Malcolm responded promptly and correctly (thanks to him!!)
When i looked at the fault printouts i see a section tells what systems are installed and as i look them up AGN is gearbox and yes it has faults. 1 :- the gearbox fault light doesn't work ! The other faults are all pressure regulator faults. So i phoned them up and the service manager i dealt with is now back in the workshop on mechanic duty ( god help the people he repairs for) i spoke to the new guy, i asked him why the report says no faults and yet the fault list says 5 faults and he wasn't sure. He agreed that procedure wasn't followed so i have to go back next week and get a proper diagnosis done when the good tech is back on duty. So i think he may as well have asked the dinner lady if the camber was adjustable. The new chap was nice enough so i'll wait and see what happens.

I wonder if dealers think about the fact that if they can't be bothered or don't know how to sort out problems, customers just aren't going to come back. They always seem more interested in making money than actually helping.

It seems quite simple to me - give a good service and keep your customers.

I certainly wouldn't go back except he's agreed to do it again for free, why would you ? I had to read up on the diagnostics from WIS so that i could argue that the checks were not done properly. I expect to have to argue more when i get there and keep spitting out examples of what should be done to make sure they think i know what i am talking about

Could you not go to an Independent MB specialist? Their customer service is usually better than the larger franchise dealerships and cheaper too.

Well closest indie is at least twice as far either direction. Silly me thought i'd get proper info considering its all there in front of them. And whatever now i've decided not to go back because today while adjusting the camber i discovered that the N/S driveshaft where it exits the gearbox is very very wobbly ! The shaft seems to have no lock ring on it to keep it in and the whole thing wiggles about so i think i have found my gearbox problem.

Where abouts are you located ? theres a good indy in Dundalk that i have used hes good and well priced to .

I live close to Kildare town. Dundalk would be a bit out of the way Thanks though. I think there is a mercman south of me past mountrath . If i am really stuck i may look there. Either way i think we are buying a fiesta to runabout in and pull the box out of the V-class.

Just out of interest i looked in a Toyota Lucida a friend bought for 1100 euro. Front rear aircon. elec wins new alloys and tyres. 8 seats, boot space sliding seats in the back......why do i have a crappy v-class i ask myself ?
