Why does my car select first gear all the time?

Just recently started (see other threads) but it seems my car has started to select first gear rather than second when coming to a halt.

Anyone know why this might happen?

Makes life un smooth.

How do you know it's selecting 1st gear? My clk does not show individual gear's unless in manual mode.

I thought if one had it in S ( standard ) it would start in first gear and if you have it in W ( winter ) it starts in 2nd

It is not in Sport. It used to be as you say, if in Sports its selecting 1st and if not, sets off in second. This has recently changed.

Its making a jerky change change as I come to a halt.

i know its selecting first as when I pull away, its obvious as the revs rise and there is an extra change.

Could be a faulty Sports mode switch ,when engine is cold the gearbox will select 1st gear , so possibly another sensor at fault . I guess Star is you best bet .

What year is your car? And do you have the valeo radiator?

Hi, its a 2003 320.

It had the Valeo rad issue 20k mikes ago and was rebuilt then.
