Why do they love electric cars in the Arctic Circle? - BBC News

Encouraged by Norway's abundance of electrical hydropower their electric car incentives make the UK MODEL purchase subsidy a bit of a joke. Interestingly no mention of the problems of battery powered cars operating in near or sub zero environments.

Norway's green car sweeteners

No purchase taxes
Exemption from 25% VAT on purchase
Low annual road tax
No charges on toll roads or ferries
Free municipal parking
Access to bus lanes
50% reduction in company car tax
No VAT on leasing

''Norway is fortunate enough to have close to 100% renewable and cheap hydro power production.''

Enough said...

The UK setup is a joke for a different reason. Electric cars shouldn't need a subsidy at all if they are supposedly so wonderful.

Norway has a low population and loads of hydro electricity and now has loads of Teslas.

The UK has a big population and if there was a really significant switch to electric plug ins then our existing power infrastructure problems would multiply fast. Given what we're seeing with Hinckley Point it doesn't look like we're imn the least prepared or capable of dealing with that.

Norway also regularly tops the list as the country with the highest standard of living on the planet.

Income levels there are huge, but so is the cost of goods.

It's not really comparable to the UK, they are miles ahead of us.

It also happens to be the most beautiful place I've ever visited. This is probably due to the award winning coastline and Fjords designed by Slartibartfast.

A bit chilly though.
