Why is introduction area so hard to find ?

Remember when the forum was updated to a new version, there was uproar for at least a week.

I think all new members should be required to attend a 3 day residential training course to learn how to navigate the forum website, to learn the rules regarding AMG badging, be educated about sexual equality and to ensure you are not racist, homophobic and not a practicing member of any political party.
In addition they should be interviewed by a representative panel of existing members ( technical experts, old f*rts , real AMG owners, buyers of old bangers and restoration projects and a couple of members who expect to run their MB's without spending any money ).
On completion they will need to have demonstrated to the panel that they can find the new members Thread without any assistance, on successful completion they will be admitted to the forum and allowed to post. This should improve things!

You bunch of horrible old farts.

Welcome Mr Woblyneck hope you’re well and welcome to the old farts don’t stick AMG badges on your non AMG merc club or you will receive a 600psi punch.
How’s that ?
Brown nose.;)

Whats the issue? This is a free forum with a handful of easy to follow rules.

I see you have created your thread, you just need to wait for someone to reply. There is only so much hand-holding we can do, the error messages explain what is going on.

I thought similar!

30 posts before private messaging and classified access seems harsh, but we don't make the rules, and it's a free forum.

Patience is a virtue, etc!

Why is this a problem?

It tries to ensure people do not just post wanting help for a problem get their answer and not contribute further to the Forum. As said itis a free resource and it has many members with considerable knowledge of Mercedes, motoring in general and many other specialsit subjects.

I understand why, and wasn't really complaining.

It is a touch annoying however, if I joined solely to post in the classifieds section, and then are banned until reaching an arbitrary post count.

As I said, not complaining - just agreeing roughly with the sentiment that it's annoying.

Almost as annoying is having to pay eBay or AutoTrader to post your advert.

You are not getting it are you? It is precisely to stop people JUST posting in the clasifieds to get free advertising. What is annoying about that?

You are not banned from posting on the Forum and contributing and as the minimum post count was decided upon by Forum Admin it is hardly arbitrary.

Where does the 30 post count come from then? It is an arbitrary number, with no real reason beyond the reason that you want people to contribute and not abuse the free forum to spam the advertising areas.

I doubly get it that it stops traders from easily creating multiple accounts to surreptitiously advertise their cars.

I get - and am sympathetic to - the reasons.

And yet it is frustrating to me, as I have nothing to sell, I don't yet own a Mercedes, and have very little to usefully contribute to the forum yet... but I am on the lookout for a tidy W124.

Hence my other posts.

I'm not arguing (maybe I am a little bit), but more agreeing with another newbie that the post limit is a bit annoying.

Only another 21 to go :)

30 posts don’t take long to rack up for someone who engages in conversation. You’re already up to 9 posts, helped by this thread. Good luck with your search.

3 posts arguing that you are not arguing and you are still annoyed because the rules do not suit your purpose.

You acknowlege the reason for a minimum count on one hand but again do not agree with it on another!

You could start a thread to ask owners of W124 models for their experiences, things to look out for, recommeded suppliers of parts, specialist independents local to you etc. This may prove helpful to you and others as well as contributing to your post count?

I suppose you're right.

I guess I'm just a prickly character at times. And I admit I do like playing Devil's Advocate...

I understand the rules and we the forum has them... but even still I can't help myself.

As for spares, I'm fairly adept at finding stuff - even obscure stuff for weird cars. Breakers, parts suppliers or main dealer - I'm in a position where the car I buy can be nicely maintained with pukka parts. I'm no millionaire, but I don't mind spending on my hobbies - cars and bikes being easily the two most expensive.

While I'm in no rush to jump into ownership, the pool of cars that meet my exacting requirements that simultaneously exist and are up for sale is frequently zero...

As I already mentioned - patience is a virtue, etc etc.... hahahaha

This is getting boring....

Surely you can find a more constructive way of reaching 30 posts.
