Hello

Wife left her car in a Multistory yesterday and this morning noticed the passenger side door has been well bift, creased the panel and down to bear metal :(

I've just seen it after she has just got in and it is quite bad, certainly the car that hit it would have known...its not just a parking 'bump'

Anyway two things...

1) It was in a qpack? garage at least thats what the recipt she has says, parked from 9.15am to 3pm (we cannot be 100% sure it was here it happened but pretty sure...) Would the garage look on the CCTV (assuming they have it) or in this day and age is that a infringement of the person that damamged our cars rights so they wouldn't. I doubt they would even look but?

2) Insured with esure... protected no claims, total excess £250. If we claim do we have to admit to claim next insurance time? I just tried to phone them but no one there will try in morning.

Will post a pic later but pretty annoyed as its a real prang and someone out there would know they did it. I just hope what goes around comes around :)

:(

hi, sorry to here about your car, i too am with esure, and i had a claim last year because some mindless person keyed the whole side and tailgate on my car, esure had the car repaired for me i had to pay £100 excess, but i didn't have to mention the claim this time round, ad it was never questioned, hope this helps mate.

also i am sure if you went to the police and explained to them what happened, they would try to get a look at the cctv for you, something may come to light, you never know until ou try, but i know i would mate.

I've rang the capark and left a message,

not sure anything will come of that. As for ringing police I doubt they can be bothered but who knows...

thanks

when my car was damaged, i had to report it to the police anyway, just to get a crime number to give to esure, so if you are going through your insurance you may well have to get on to the police anyway. they may then decide to check out the cctv.

The Police are likely to give you a reference number but I very much doubt they will spend hours looking at CCTV for what is a no-injury damage-only collision on private property. :(

However, your wife is entitled to a copy of the CCTV (likely to be for a small fee - £10 is typical), but be warned that some operators may wipe the recording after 24 hours, so you need to contact the operator of the system pretty sharpish - this may not be the Car Park owners, the details of who to contact should be clearly displayed in the Car Park.

It is a bit of effort on your part, but it might just identify the person who caused the damage and save you your excess. :o

Did the person who hit your wife's car leave any paint behind ?

If you do manage to identify a 'suspect' from the cctv , having a sample of their paint on your car would strengthen any case you might have .

rang the car park and the insurance comapany...no one opens until 9am

Does no one have Kids...been up since 6 doing all sorts including watching qualifying :)

Here is the dint...is that a dent master job?

I agree - looks like it's 'creased' which is probably one of the types of dents that will be difficult to remove without leaving traces - plus the small bit of damaged paint.

Sorry to hear what happened A210, but I guess you'll be better off getting the door painted. Perhaps ask for a couple of private quotes, might be cheaper (certainly in the long run..) than going through the insurance.

Good luck,

Will

No consolation to you at all, but years ago I used to have a Granada Scorpio (the big hatchback) and I came back from a very brief visit to the supermarket to find a very big dent in the passenger door skin (probably about 12 inches in diameter and about an inch deep). A guy was in the car next to me - clearly the guilty party (I'd only been in the store about two inutes and the space was empty when I parked) but flatly denied knowing anything about it.

I was absoutely furious, but helpless. I got in the car in a foul temper and slammed the driver's door shut....the sudden change in air pressure poppped out the dent so when I got home there wasn't a trace of it:o...

Also check - if you make a claim how it will affect next years premium. I note you said you have protected NCD - that doesn't always protect the base premium onto which the NCD is applied.

Some companies will load the base premium for a "non recoverable claim"...

As for reporting it next year - you only need to do that if you move away from your current insurer. Your current insurer will of course have the details on file.

Who ever dinged that knew what they had done....b@st@rds.

I spoke to somone who worked at a firm that lengthened mass market saloons (hearse and limos) - Rover 800 and Scorpios were like running a knife through butter, Volvos and Mercs required a little more effort...

Depends how good your dent guy is. I had a crease on the front wing of a w208, and if you didnt know it was there before, you would never see the repair. Got to be worth a shot.

Sorry to hear of your woes, I was sat in my car in a car park once waiting for herself, and a Voyager reversed out of a space smack bang into a clio caving the door in, the woman got out, had a look and buggered off! I wrote her number down and put it under the clios wiper. Anyway, about 5 minutes later the Voyager returned, I thought she had a concience rethink, but no, she got out and took my note off the clio window and buggered off again!

So I sat there til the owner returned and told her what happened.

Anyway, the Voyager lady apparently got prosecuted for some offence and her insurance had to pay for the Clio.

People are so selfish it makes me sick sometimes.

I will try and borrow the car and get some quotes...

Rang the insurance and they say (esure) we have protected no claims and protceted bonus for the life of the policy. Our no claims will not be affected but we will if we change insurnace have to tell the new insurance company we have made a none fault claim?

Not sure what this will mean in the long run.

Asked could I take the car to Mercedes and they said yes, only thing is I would not get a car as if I took it to their recommneded garages?

Will see what they say cost wise..

Carpark manager rang me back very nice chap but they only have cameras on Level 1 and wifes car was level 4...

OOh well off to Mercedes when I can for a quote :)

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Not sure if you set your heart on having this done by MB in Chester?
If not I am happy to recommend an independant body guy here in Wrexham (his work is as good as it gets- and I VERY fussy!)
He tells me that in years gone by he has taken work of the old MB main dealer in Chester (Newgate Motors) and sorted out in his words "their **** ups"

I agree with other comments, dentmaster or similar can't do much with that prang (wrong place) and some paint damage too- needs a proper bodyshop repair sadly.
