Wifey walked out of the Tesco store in Tiptree on Sunday afternoon, 3:30 ish
to find her car's hazard lights flashing. On closer inspection some *** had left her a nice dent below the n/s rear light cluster and a scuffed bumper.
No note on windscreen. No witnesses. No CCTV.

Anyone had to have similar damage repaired? If so how much was it ?

The bent trim under the tail lamp might literally be knocked out by a decent bodyshop, probably with no damage to the paint if they're quite skilled. The bumper paint repair probably wouldn't be too difficult either, they'd only need to paint a little bit then feather it out with some lacquer so it's blended in. Dunno about costs though, I'm guessing under £200?

It's why my SLK does go to the supermarket - but only gets parked away from other cars ;)

The trouble with parking away from other cars is that your car becomes a target for thieves! Whenever I park away from other cars someone always parks next to me anyway! I just park nearest the door now

Sorry to disagree Shude, but that corner damage will not just knock out. The skin has been stretched and creased badly and will not recover. It may be a bit more expensive than you think, my guess would be nearer £400 for the lot.
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

Yes, I've got M-A into the habit of parking near other 'quality' cars hoping that the other people don't bang their car doors against hers, but in this case it was probably someone reversing from the opposite rank. ie too * lazy to turn their steering wheel a bit more.
A couple of quotes are in the pipe-line.....

Oh good, then we get to see who was closest with the guess! :)

Please bear in mind that I'm from the north and we have reasonable prices up here unlike the south! Up north that kind of dent would be knocked out by a little old fella with a flat cap who'd normally be beating tin baths into shape or something ;) .

£200 should do it. Even if the dent cannot be removed it can be filled in and the corner section blown back in.

I had a similar dent and bumper scratch in my CLK, local MB Approved body shop cost £350 + VAT and did a good job.

100 quid in new parts?

eh?

And 172 quid for paint and materials - can't see how they can use £172 worth of paint on an area that small!

Even the labour seems steep - what's their 'hourly rate'?

Unless there is something major that is not obvious in that photo of yours, you could definately get as good a job performed by an independant body shop for a fraction of that cost! (I know that this will call cries of mobilo warranties etc    )

Did they give you a breakdown of the proposed work to be done?

Cheers,

Will

Thats just taking the absolute pi$$...

I know a man near Tolworth on the A3 that would prolly do that for about £100-£150 and it would be an invisible repair too.
