Is there such a doofer as a wifi repeater?

I have an AP in my dining room (yeah - ok)

walls so thick, cant get reception in living room

so - is there a 'box' i can lob in the kitchen, that recieves said traffic from AP and re-sends it along?

So that i can use the laptop from the living room to the dining room (or whatever) without having to change settings?

Or should I just get a 4 watt aerial for the current box?

What you are looking for is a wifi extender and there are plenty about. One of the cheapest options is DABS own brand PM me if you need more information.

Just discovered a new shortcut for IE7... it closes the current tab making you lose the nice long paragraph you typed!

Trial 2:

In the UK, the legal limit for 802.11b/g networks is 100mW ERP. ERP= effective radiated power. Hence a 4W antenna would be illegal without special licences (which are given only in 2 cases, testing and educational/confined environments).

100mW ERP would mean that with a 'common' 9dbi antenna, your transmitter can be at most 25-something mW. (its logarithmic, every 3db will double your power, hence 25mWx9dbi = 25mW x 2^(9/3) = 95mW ERP

Hence, multiple(or just one) <100mW repeaters is what you need :)
