looking to change wheels im on 16" will i get away with 17" or 18" forgot to say its been lowered

18" alloys will fit, but the ride will suffer. How much have you lowered the car by?
You may find those type of wheel a little weak for the weight of the car, might be best to find something more solid. 5 x 112 is the pcd you need.
Et 35 is about right, I have et41 on mine but they are close to the shock absorbers.
This a bad picture of 18" alloys with the normal ride height, tyres are 225/40/18.
This was a standard 300e with 1 coil cut off all 4 springs, with the same wheels and tyres as the estate above.
And this another bad picture of 18" alloys with the same tyre size on a sportline lowered car.
I think you will get away with 18's so long as you have the correct size tyres.

they're 8Jx17 et 35 with cheap tyres but loads of thread, 225/45/17

well thats going to be an issue just checked the off set on my rims and the the ET is 25 will this be ok for the time being if not il have to buy a set of wheels
ET25 is to low for a 124 as they`ll stick out a bit
