I currently have x4 255 35 19 winters but I want the rears to be 285.

Will 285 35 be ok or does it have to be 30 on the rear like my summer tyres?

Please don't tell me to run 255 on the back. They aren't wide enough for the alloys and look stupid, and yes, I'm aware narrow is better.

Thanks

Remember the rears are only 0.5” wider (less than 13mm) but the rears at 285 section are 30mm wider than the front. In other words, the overhang would differ by about 6mm from the rim lip compared to the front by running 255s...

No you shouldn’t run a 35 profile in 285/19 - it would affect the correct rolling radius, hence gearing, ride height etc - maybe even the stability systems/ABS etc might throw a fault as it would sense different speeds between the front and rear axles.

255s are fine :) :D

What about 295 30 19 on rear???
There is much more choice in this size than 285 30 19

Hadn't considered 295 30 I'll take a look. I can't see any second hand rear winters on eBay at 285 30 hence the reason for looking at alternatives.

But there is plenty 295 30 19 Pirelli Sottozero almost brand new and very good price. This is very popular Porsche size
Have a look[emoji6]

so will the 295 stick out slightly more over the alloy than the 285?

Are you purely bothered about aesthetics or having the best tyre size for optimum grip and handling?

Clearly a 295 section tyre is 10mm wider than a 285 section tyre, do you know what size wheels you have, i.e. 9 / 9.5 J as this will ultimately limit the width of tyre that can be safely fitted to that rim.

I run 295’s on the rear of the cls63. they used to be 275 on oem tires.

on my 2010 e63 I have 285/30/19 on the rear and 255/35/19 on the front and there fine , I ran the same on my cls as well, all pirelli

Winters?
I run 255/35 winters all round and they look fine (summers are as yours)

E63s have 9s and 9.5s :)

These are the correct factory sizes for summer tyres :thumb:

I got 10j rear on my CLS 63 S SB and prefer 285 or even 295 on it

Any insurance issues with non OEM sizes ?

So 295 is totally out thanks all.

In the 275 size, do I need 30, or 35? I'd be running 255 35 on the front.
