Hi all, bit of an odd thing to ask but I have my reason's.

Anyone know if the rear exhaust silencer from an s210 estate will fit an s124? Not bothered if the pipe's dont line up, just if it will actully fit in the space under the boot floor.:dk:

No,the 210 one is longer

No,the 210 one is longer

Thanks Dash,

Is it longer, as in accross the width of the car? And also do you know how much longer?

I've seen a box for sale that I like the look of, but it is ment for the s210. Just trying to see if it could be made to fit before I spend a load of money.:thumb:

So this turned up today, rear back box from an e55 amg estate.

A big thanks must go to Dash, for providing the measurements for this.

I'll post a pic of how it does, or does not fit, later this evening.:)

Looking forward to them pictures

So I found some spare time today to check the fitting of the amg box. It does indeed "fit" in the space under there, but is going to need some modification to get it how I want it.

Both mounting brackets need to be cut off and re welded, and the tailpipes need raising closer to the bumper and shortening a little.

I think that I'm going to remove the pre-cats, and/or main cat, when I do the back box.:thumb:

But first...

I've been meaning to fit a towbar to the estate for as long as I have owned her, however I wanted it to be removable. Now, the green s124 that I bought a few weeks back, (thank you Smeeeee :thumb:) came fitted with this bolted to the back end...

I'm going to alter this over the weekend so that the drawgear is removable, and the 7 pin socket will be hidden from veiw under the bumper.

I found two bits of steel box section laying around that are a good fit inside each other, and plan on using these and two steel pins, to join the parts together.

More tomorrow.:)

Here goes...

So the first thing to do, was to cut the drawgear away from the frame, and clean it up a little.

A little bit of grinding later, and we have an anne summers toy.:thumb: Now the 2 bits of steel box section, I cut to the correct length and drilled the hole for the locking pin through both bit's at once.

Next I inserted the a.s.toy into the inner peice of steel, and welded them together. Then I drilled through all 3 bits together to make sure they all line up with each other, and ended up with this...

This lot was then welded back onto the frame, and the locking pin finnished off. A bit of black paint later and we had a trial fitting.

Perfect fit, so now when I dont need a towbar it can live in the hatch under the boot floor, with the rest of the junk.

Anyway, back to that exhaust.....

It's on.

Ok, back on topic with the exhaust.

I had some spare time today, so got busy with the angle grinder. Basicly cut off and re-welded the brackets for the mouting rubbers, cut off both tail pipes, and joined the old exhaust to the new.

At the moment I havent got the tailpipes on, but first impressions are good.:thumb: It has a lovly deep tone, but is not excessivly noisey, it also fits preety well to.

The only picture that I took today, but this is how it is now...

More to come.:)

Job done.

Well it's finaly finished.:bannana:

Took a bit longer than I thought it might, it took a long time to get the tail pipes at the correct angle after I cut an inch from both. If I get some time in the near future, the cats will be going in the bin too.
