will C63 AMGs go the same way as 911 996?

What do you think?

The Black Series is a strong possibility due to scarcity but a lot will depend on the price of petrol, imagine if its £2.50 per litre in ten years time; who'll want a 17 year old car that does 15mpg?

I hardly think someone spending £100k plus on car is likely to be worried about the price of petrol.

Those sort of people buy C200d

Am I missing the joke here...What do you mean by Those sort of people ?

I re read it and wasn't very clear sorry. What I meant was that the sort of people worried about the price of fuel would likely be buying a c200d or to widen that a diesel car with economy in mind. I cannot see the buyer of an expensive V8 engined car being that worried about filling his car up for £120 at £2.50 litre.

Though I may be wrong of course. Either that or a jumped up prat. :bannana:

P.s. sorry, if that's out of hand but hell I couldn't resist. :D

I wasn't referring to the B.S., if you re-read it I said I think they'll hold their money, I was on about the standard base model C63.

Exactly my thoughts!lol

Back to the C63

RS2000's could not be given away when XR3i's were out.... but look what fetches the money now.

Well I would still buy a `67 Shelby if I had the room for it !

C63 prices (facelifts) were strong last year. That's when I bought mine and it was cheap at the time. The market has bottomed out now and u can get cars for cheap. Think too many were made and now they aren't selling.

507's and good cond PP cars will hold value fairly well but stock higher milage cars are pennies now

My mate got £36500 Part Exchange on his 62 plate PPP C63 Coupe with 44k miles on back in October. Mental money. The independent dealer sold it on for £40k within a week. I suspect it would struggle to clear £30k.

I wish the face lift prices would come down a bit more

There are a few at sub 30k at the minute, some high miles (65k) but saw one at 50k which didn't look too bad, not sure if a 'good' specimen would rather be above the thirty grand mark for peace of mind

I paid 30K for my Dec 2011 palladium silver saloon, 44K, Quaife, 507 wheels, eurocharged remap and spec'd with all the driving Aids this time last year... Seemed a bargain back then... Not anymore. Shocking how quick prices came down!

Sub 30K facelifts are readily available. Many have low miles too. V basic spec tho..

I'll be keeping my C63 till prices get better then selling it buying a W205 C63S

I test drove a white facelift coupe yesterday , 2011 with 21k

Sticker price £29

There are forum members stating they've bagged 2013 models with reasonable miles for £28k

I really think a 6.2 C and E with solid service history and evidence of the following repairs will be worth more than previous AMG's after 10-12 years of their life:
Headbolts
VVT cam gear replacement
Cam and lifter replacement
Transmission valvebody replacement/repair

Those are the big ticket items which will all fail at some point undoubtedly. They will be the ones that make it onto forums more and more - as the prices drop into the teens, there will be less owners that can afford to fix them. For a while, this will have a knock on effect and aid tyre-kickers in dropping the prices of the better examples out there until the average price is between 10-13k. After a while, the tyre kickers with now poor 'good examples' will probably end up having to sell theirs at that price too (low teen's). You'll get the odd one on ebay for sub 10k. Then...something magical will happen and a few beautifully modded examples will go viral, N/A V8's will suddenly be all the rage and the desire for a minter will kick in. This will probably be in around the year 2025....Minters will be worth reasonably good money (probably around 20k+ with over 100k on the clock and an average age of 15 years) but I can't see them being an 'investment' as such. The only winners in my vision here will be the ones that truly love their 63 AMG's and just can't let go of them from now until then, but can also afford to maintain them and have no issue in doing so, despite the times when the car values hit the low teen's.

I wonder if I'll be one of those people...I'd like to believe I will be. I can't see myself buying another Mercedes because...I just don't like new range.

But yeah for what it's worth, I think the 507's will be in the 30's and the black series will go high. I can never understand what the big fuss about the black series is though...you could mod a standard C63 facelift coupe to the same/more power anyway...albeit without the lighter rotating engine assembly.

It's where you live...always too expensive.

I sold my C55 for a 996 Turbo, purchased the Porsche in July 2014 for 23k, well maintained with 3 previous owners, stock with no modifications.
Today's market price is probably +10k or more on my purchase price, was offered 35k this time last year.
I personally believe that certain cars are subject to this appreciation, which no one can predict, who knew the 996 Turbo would demand the money they can today, not even classed as a classic really.
My purchase wasn’t based on future values, it was an awful lot of car for the money, much the same as the C55, I’m just lucky really, I had an idea they may appreciate in value based on other models coming into a renaissance but it wasn’t my main reason for purchase.
There are a lot of N/A 6.2 liter Merc engines about in various models, the 996 Turbo engine is used in the 996 GT3 (albeit minus turbos) and the early 997 Turbo, all 3 demanding higher values.
The 996 Turbo is still a wonderful car to drive, very engaging and typical Porsche characteristics, I’ve driven the C63 and it’s an enormous amount of car, bit of a wild stallion in comparison to most everything close to its class, I would hope this alone would be the demand point that may help it become a high demand car in the future.
