Hi folks
Been caught short a bit. Will be setting off to Cornwall shortly, over 300miles. Could do with topping up the oil on my s124 e220.

Will it hurt to top it up with some 4 stroke Castrol 10w 40 motorbike oil I’ve got in the garage?

Ask your camshaft after 100 miles.

Why on earth would you consider that and ask this question? It's oil,,, not gold,,,, and affordable.

Motorbike oil is different from car oil as the clutch is immersed in the oil it has different properties. It is missing a load of friction modifiers if I recall correctly.

Short answer don't do it

Has the warning light come on yet?

No local garages where you can get some suitable oil?
Don't use that motorcycle oil.

Could be worse - he could have used 2 stroke ...

What a fuss !

The motorcycle oil is good quality and the right viscosity. It will be fine for a top up.

was exactly my thinking

Christ

managed to find somewhere that sold appropriate stuff.
I was packing the car and had the bin lids it was a nightmare, as I said I was fought short.

longest spin I have taken the merc on, 340 miles. It was an absolute pleasure to drive to not miss a beat
