TRIUMPH 2000 SALOON? Triumph 2000 - Wikipedia In 2.5 PI [ Petrol Injection] version one of the first UK manufacturers to feature fuel injection on their 6 cylinder engines. Unfortunately Joe Lucas hadn't developed it very well meaning the fuel pump wasn't up to the job and would overheat causing the car to break down frequently- the fuel pump was based on a windscreen wiper motor evidently! Other conventionally fuelled twin carb versions of the engine [ the USA market only got those] proved more reliable but developed less power. The early versions of the TR6 SPORTSCAR got the same injection system and many restorers get round the fuel pump problem by retrofitting a BOSCH fuel cooled pump assembly a la Mercedes Benz CSI injection system.
