Slk 230 1999.
Nearside 1/4 window will not raise or lower and is stuck halfway.
Looked inside the window rubber and reattached the bowden cable back onto the pullies, the regulator is trying to work and then meets resistance and the cable jumps.
The window appears to be very loose compared to the other side,so i am thinking it has come out of the runner, thereby causing damage to the cable.
I will need to replace the regulator assembly, quoted £150 just for the part.
Does anyone have experience of stripping the inside out to get to the window mechanism, indeed if a drawing is available that would make life a lot easier.
Cheers

Thanks Dec,
Will look over the info.
Any contacts/info for a replacement regulator.
Cheers

I don’t have the info that you require.

If the cable is unbroken and the two “bullets” at each end of the cable and motor are ok then it should be possible to put it all back together.

When you say the… “regulator is trying to work and then meets resistance and the cable jumps”… could be down to the way you are reattaching the cable.

The bullet at one end of the cable is inserted into a hole in the spool and that end of the cable is wound round the spool clockwise
The same is done with the other end of the cable except it is wound round the spool counter-clockwise, the spool is then put back on the spindle, that’s how it looks to me and is similar to the way a window motor mechanism work that use a cable.

Hi,
Dismantled everything today, took about 20 mins to get it out and in bits, the info you sent in German was invaluable.
When i got a quote from my local merc dealers they wanted £225 for labour,Quote 2.5 hours plus £135 for parts.
They must think we are idiots, anyway dismantled the spools and the cable had come off the guides and was wrapped around the teeth inside.
The cable is still in one piece but cannot be used again.
I am in the process of finding some cable and fittings to make my own, merc won't supply just the cable,I wonder why not!
Cheers

A very old thread but I've just had the same problem with our SLK. The cables are available on ebay (search for 'SLK rear window cable'). Fitting the cables is a bit tricky as the tensioning springs have to be compressed. this is either a two person job or, as I did, screw the guide plate to a length of wood, tension one spring and clamp the cable to the wood to hold it in place then insert the other spring by pulling on the cable. Remove the top and bottom guides by pushing out the retaining pins and then reassemble with the new cables. As a preventative measure I removed the mechanism from the other side and cleaned and lubricated it. Both now move much more smoothly than before.
