Is anyone here trialing this? If so how are you finding it?

Yes, I have used it for a while on a Samsung NC10 Netbook, dual-booting alongside the standard XP.

Clean-installed the RC yesterday having been part of the Beta program earlier. Impressed with the quick setup and the included drivers - almost zero work to do after the standard "install then let windows update run" cycle.

Seems to be about as quick as XP and so far no problems. Using Kaspersky for anti-virus and Firefox browsing.

Also using the netbook to "remote desktop" into the i7 Vista desktop PC where my files live.

Been running it on a Virtual PC hosted by Vista64.......seems OK, so far...it hasn't crashed yet, but then it's only been operational for 2 hours.....

Windows 7 - is definitely the way forward.

It works great on older laptops with 1Gb memory - its a trimmed down version of Vista basically.

Same here - no probs and theyre bringing out a version specifically for netbooks

I downloaded the Beta but when I tried to install it on one of my spare PCs, it BSODs on install. Have downloaded the RC and will burn to DVD and have another go at installing tonight.

And it still, like Vista, seems to be a step back from XP

Why bother about this virtualised XP mode - you might as well just run ... XP.

Been running beta for a while, and took the plunge and installed RC as a full install - so far no problems - all drivers work. Appears snappier and windows open quicker. UAC less annoying :)).

PC fairly new (Intel Core i7 940, 6GB ram)

Although only installed for 3 days, so far not a single crash or freeze - and in one instance I was converting two different pieces of HD, 1280x720 footage (two different files, two different programmes) simultaneously and not a problem.

Been running the Beta on a virtual PC under Vista, no probs and has been v stable.

Will look to clean install RC this w/e..

You can also break open the downloaded ISO (use isobuster or similar) and install from a USB stick or even run setup.exe under your existing install - targeting a new disk ideally! It is still RC.....

I ran it for a while on my MBP; it felt like Vista with the glitter turned off... so I went back to Vista...

Not a bad os, mind you... but as I have the brute power to run Vista, I'm quite happy with Vista with all the glitter turned on :D

Been running the full release for a couple of days now and RC's before that.

Seems better than Vista... not sure yet what real benefits there are over XP for a home user but for corporates there's a bunch of things that are attractive.

Its early days yet and will take me a few months to form a solid opinion.

One more thing

Forgot to mention - clean install took just under 20 minutes (incl online updates after first start).
Can't remember anything that quick since DOS.

By the way, I haven't noticed any lack of Vista glitter?

Mike
