Sounds like a break in the wiring where the cabling goes into the door from the chassis

are you saying that when key is in ignition and engine started (with doors closed) the windows do not work ?

Open a door and look carefully in the gap between its front and the bodywork. You will see a wiring loom passing from the main car body to the door, which carries all the wiring for mirrors, windows, switches and anything else electrical in the door. It's a fairly common problem for some wires in this loom to break. If it happens to a window wire the windows stop working. It's possible the broken ends of the wire touch when the door is open, thus completing the circuit, and are separated when it's closed, preventing correct operation.
