Windows Live Messenger

I hope someone can help please. On start-up, Windows Live Messenger window appears listing contacts and showing who is online. How can I stop this happening? I am not sure what I did to provoke this. Many thanks.

Open Messenger and go to the menu bar - Tools - preferences and make sure the "Start when Windows loads" check box is clear. Exit Messenger, done.

If you mean you wish Messenger not to start up with Windows, there is an option or three to disable various start-up states within Messenger itself - click on Show Menu and access Tools/Options I think

Thank you all for the speedy responses. You put me on the right track- it is in options ie Messenger not to show when Windows opens.What a relief !!
