First off, hope you all had a good xmas !!

My laptop's been slowly grinding to a halt over the last few weeks and in the last few days, it just refused to do anything.

Thankfuly, I managed to get a new HD today from Stockport - And Hello to the guy who tested my ABS. I wasn't sure wether the finger you gave me was the number of brain cells you have or the gallons of snakebite you'd consumed. Whatever - I hope you got home safe.:D

So.... new hard drive installed. I'm trying to keep programs to a minimum.

But, in msconfig and start up menu's, how can I keep things to a 'minimum'?

how much can I disable in start up an services??

Many thanks.
Jay.

Merry Xmas Jay, hope you had a good 'un :D

What flavour Windows you using?

IIRC msconfig refuses to disable anything critical

I wouldn't advise you do that..

Have a read here, may help.

Forget MSconfig and Install CCleaner, lets you manage start up and will disable what you want unlike windows, also allows you to manage and repair the registry. I found it after I posted the exact same question as you on here It's been brilliant ever since, the web support also identifies exactly what files do that are located in the start up

Thanks guys.

I'm determined to keep things to a minimum this time - I hate clutter!!

I'll check out the suggestions.
