more than an ansswer than a question when it rains and the wipers are going i had an oily film on the outside of my windscreen , clears after a couple of seconds after the wiper stroke, new blades on too.

have tried numerous household and automative glass cleaners, fairy liquid, vingar and new paper, contact cleaner, car wash shampoo, and even a bit of brake cleaner... no difference then went for..2 packs of bluetac...

5mins later - clear as new, cannot believe i spent so much time with all kind of chemicals and 2pounds were of bluetac from the news agent sorted it!

Do you mean that you rubbed Blu-tac along the edge of your wiper blade?

nope -flatten the bluetac out and gave the windscreen a wipe/rub/roll with a bit of rain (was spitting) so may have acted as a lubricant, dead easy to do

1st time did a 8 inch square as a test, then used the wipers ( completley clear within the square) now done the rest of windscreen

wipers cleaned with a cloth

Ok sorry, made a mistake, try UHU, that'll nail it.

I'm thinking you have a bio film in the water tank, Milton should take care of it, or Janola Bleach straight out of the bottle.

No I don't want to hear it thank you people, I've done both at the same time and there have been no problems, not even with the hood material. :)

Whilst on this topic, is there any advice for getting the INSIDE of the windscreen clean. As above I have tried almost everything but am always left with smears etc. Haven't tried bluetack yet though. Any suggestions?

Mr. Muscle works for me, but, with plenty of clean cloths. You have to lift the grunge off not just smear it.

blu tac is the equivalent of claying your car windscreen... in fact some people on here have used blu tac instead, to clay their car, as it's a fraction of the cost!
if you do... don't forget the lubricant

Go to a builders merchant and ask for a glass cleaner what window fitters use.
Cheaper and better than most other products.

Believe it or not those "Screenies" wipes are excellent for the interior of the screen.

Screenies Interior Glass Wipes - Pack of 20: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

A key thing also with glass is using a glass microfibre cloth. I got a few of these from autopia car care they are ribbed and are really excellent on glass helped withe a spray of "Autoglym fast glass"

Also don't forget you can get legionaires desease if you have a dirty washer container.

Legionnaires' risk from wiper water

hi - update blutac gets load of gunk off the blades too..

done the milton trick in the washer bottle, as was said earlier... smelt like rotten eggs in there!!

if u put milton on a cloth and wipe the screen n leave it , when it dries you can then see the gunk on the screen much more effort with the blutac though, and wear gloves too as miltons a disinfectant, so it can mildly burn neat..

one very clean screen wipers do their job now..

i am only just starting ,45 behind you
