Winter wheels/tyres for CLS X218 Shooting Brake

I've got 19" wheels with summer tyres on my Merc,. front are 245/35/19 rear 285/30/19.
I am looking to pick up some 18" wheels with tyre for the winter, but am totally confused as to what width rim/offset etc will ft my car.

Has anyone bought wheels for a CLS or alternatively can someone explain how I work out what will fit my car?

What does you handbook say? - For my CLK it tells me to run the same (17") fitment on both axles for winter tyres.

Or have you got that far already and want to know that it's 5x112mm PCD and the centre bore is 66.6mm. - The actual offset (ET) is the unknown factor. I bought wheels that had come off a C-Class (thus definitely a Mercedes fitment) which foul my brake callipers.

Front wheel : 8.5Jx18 ET34.5 (A2184011402)
Front Tyre : 255/40R18 99V XL Pirelli W240 Sottozero S-2 Merc MO
Rear wheel : 9.5Jx18 ET48 (A2184011502)
Rear wheel : 285/35R18 101V XL Pirelli W240 Sottozero S-2 Merc MO

The tyres, especially the rear will be expensive and likely there will be very little cost difference between 19" and 18". In fact, comparing the costs of a wheel / tyre combination between 18" AMG III and 19" AMG 5 Spoke the overall price difference is GBP256.66. (Which is the difference in the cost of the wheels - The tyres cost the same regardless if they are 18" or 19")

By-the-way, are the 19" that you have OEM? The reason I ask is because the tyre sizes you listed for the front aren't correct for original mercedes wheels.

On the 19" rims, they should be:

Front wheel : 8.5Jx19 ET34.5
Front tyre : 255/35 R19 96Y XL
Rear wheel : 9.5Jx19 ET 48
Rear tyre : 285/30R19 98Y XL

I didn't even think to look in the handbook. The couple of times I have referred to the handbook I've found it a waste of time as the detail was so limited. I'll check tomorrow.

I can get the offset etc from the wheels, but what i don't understand is if I have to match them exactly.

Aaah, yes, I made an error it should 255/35/19. They are OEM wheels.
I'm looking for 18" wheels which are preferably narrower for better winter grip. Also, I struggled to find any tyre fitter offering the 28/30/19 as a winter tyre.

All the 18" OEM approved fitments use the same widths as the 19" on the shooting brake.
