I need to stop the smearing that is called using my wipers. I was trying to locate one of the aftermarket blades that clean in both directions, but alas the only part available is the std Bosch part which ranges in price from £17 from stealer to £20 from factors. Car in question is W210, with it appears a problematic single wiper system. I even tried PIAA and they list W211 not W210. Any advice? :crazy:
Am I the only one to have this problem or am I expecting too much?

i have same problem - hence my thread recently rer washer addative- most here recomend mb own stuff .
I Dont think blades will change the situation much as after mine were changed at a service the smearing reoccured within a week - surely blades - anyones - will last longer than this !!!!!!!!

Try this......

I have had the same problem myself in the past, with different makes of car.

I would suggest the following;

1) Replace the wiper blade, preferably Bosch. Halfords are reasonable, about £12.99

2) Before you fit or use the new blade, clean your windscreen thoroughly with a good windscreen cleaner. It should sqeak when free of any contaminants. I say this because it might have been polished in the past with car polish. I would suggest you never put polish on the windscreen, might look nice in the sun, but horrible results when it rains & you use the wipers. The wipers are trying to remove the polish, but all it does is spead it around. No good. Try polishing your car when it's spitting with rain and you will see what I mean.

3) Clean out your washer resevoir thoroughly, and refill with reputed windscreen washer, not dishwasher, some contain silicone which will cause smearing, and a bitch to get off. Mercedes sell proper windsceen washer additive/antifreeze.

4) Then fit new blade, if you fit before you do this you will contaminate the new blade with whatever is on your windscreen and/or in your washer fluid.

I have done these things myself, and it worked.

Also clean off bugs as soon as possible from your windscreen, as they are full of oil.

Good luck, Bill.
