I sat in Roly's (Roland) E300 24V Sportline this weekend and it was very very nice!!!

Anyway I noticed his wiper was extremly silent, well mine is also but when it comes back to the rest position it left a few drops... I never thought anything of it because it usually CHUCKS water away from the screen so nicely...

anyhow while visiting the stealership for Rubber mats I decided to check my blade, it had a very small rip in it!!!!

....I asked for a new blade and handed over my £18.10, just behind me was an old school class mate we shook hands and had a brief chat... he was here for a wiper blade also! I cracked a joke saying I took the last one and so on, I waited for him because he had a nice Mercedes 190E Cosworth!!! and I was eager to check it out....

He only paid £6 for his rubber (for his dads W202) it turned out he had just the 'rubber' and I had the rubber complete with the arm... I said oh 'F THAT' then and waived to the parts guy who was a oldish kinda guy with his spectacles on the brink of his nose... (mr know it stealershit guy)

After getting a swap and cursing him for not telling me that refills were available he said to me that he will see me in 20... WHY? I asked... he asked if I had ever done one before I was no but dude how hard can it be? we stood making bets that I wouldnt be back etc etc and my friend started to go red with embarresment as I started telling the parts guy off....

I then got the humph with the guy and started bragging to him about EPC's and WIS's and how did he know this part could be fitted on that car and did he even know that and how long he had been with mercedes, the bodysshop manager saw me and know me by name , 'MR DHIR, hows tricks? done any more modifications?' he shouted I smiled at him and gave the parts idiot a wink

The window rubber took like 5 minutes to fit, 3 minutes to read instructions and rape the old one off and 2 minutes to install the refill... Guess what! I didn't know what I had been missing, it was much more quiter and no left over droplets plus I saved myself 12 pounds and made the parts guy look like a fool

RUBBER MATS RUBBER WIPERS, I THINK THAT 12 SQUID SHOULD BUY ME SOME RUBBER JOHNNIES TO SHAFT THE PARTS GUY PROPERLY EVERYTIME I GO THERE

on my last service I noticed that I had a "wiper blade" billed, I noticed the wiper was much better, and I was charged about £7 or something. bargain.

I guess some stealerships try it on, some don't.

EDIT: I should add that it's cheaper to get that from the stealership than it is to get it from Halfords or somewhere!

I have sold loads this week thanks to the rain. We sell them out at £6.49 for the complete wiper arm and blade for the W202.

We stock Trico blades, they are very, very good, not the cheapest but worth the bit extra. When I bought my car it had genuine MB ones on and the front one smeared and the rear one only wiped the lower half. I fitted ours and they are really good.

Yes, MB sold me the whole thing when, I replaced on my C200. For £18 though, it's easier and the black part is nice and shiney!

Koolvin has lost it. Officially crackers.

Since when did W202 C-Class have two wipers.

That could be a new mod! Traditional pair of wipers! - Nah!

i meant the headlamp washers

I replaced them both too. £7 each for the rubber with the back attached.

They did actually smarten the front up, as well as perform better.

The only clean parts on my car ar the Arcs made by the wiper and washers on the Windscreeen and headlamps

My rubber refill cost me £2.50 from a local motor factors.

Blade is now silent.

K., I'm not suprised at you stealer experience. Why give you an insert when they can double their money?

My wiper blade, although looking healthy and having not visualy worn, has started to smear very badly despite me using Autoglym screenwash and using Autoglym Fast Glass on the Windsdcreen and wiperblade.

As the wiper looked so good in condition, I was not sure replacing it was going to make much of a difference, so I took Koolvins suggestion and just bought the refil this time.

The service assistant at the Milton Keynes dealership, fetched the refil straight away without trying to sell me the whole arm.

For £6 instead of £19 it was worth the few minutes it took to assemble. I had a spare arm to work on after my last replacement (on the C200) anyway.

Much better now! -strange but true - the old rubber actually was deeper than the new one? Cost cutting or new design?

I used to always buy the refils but as im getting old , im getting lazy too and now buy the complete arm

Not wanting to pay the 18 squids i looked about and found out that GSF were doing bosch ones for 6 quids . They are wonderful .. less than 2 seconds to fit and about the same price as the rubber.

Who needs OEM at these prices anyway ... :bannana: :bannana:

Hi,

First post, I'll do an intro later....

My E240 has a new blade at every service - about 5 or 6 quid from memory. My dealer does the refill only, not the whole blade.

Additionally, when I first got the car, I tried all sorts of screenwash but the wipers would smear like mad. So in the end I went back to Merc's own screenwash. No more smeared windscreen, and not that expensive either.

I buy high performance screenwash from costco. £2.50 for 5 litres. Its amasing and streak free im sure simontz make it.

whats GSF
can i fit w168 with aerotwin wipers

always worth replacing wipers once every 9 months dosent matter about condition
optimum wipping efficiency for 4 squids in 9 mths--not bad economy

I once tried changing the rubber .. it drove me completely mad for about 90 mins.

never again .. far too much hassle for a useless DIY person
