wipers playing up on sl63 amg

Odd fault suddenly started,
if the engines off, when i turn it on the window wipers wipe about 8 times then stop in random place.
once cars running if i flick them on or press the squirter I get the same about 8 swipes and stop in random place.
position 2/3 has no effect on speed of the wipers and does the same as position 1 (rain sensor position) so looks like 1/2 don’t work at all and its just passing 1 that activated it so moving to 2/3 has no effect as there already moving.
Window squirter/ indicators and rear window all work fine

any thoughts?

It could be a rain sensor issue. I had one in recently with a similar issue and it was caused by the ignition switch of all things!

i would of thought if it was the rain sensor then positions 2/3 would still work? but then what do i know ;o) i have a warranty but was just wondering if its a easy fix or something well known, i did search the forums and found a few people with identical symptoms but they never put up solutions
