I gave the engine bay a clean the other day and noticed a chewed cable going to/from one of the injectors. Looks like a mouse has been nibbling at the cable.

The cable is almost chewed through, there is some copper strands still allowing power through. The car is running fine and I cant feel any loss in power etc.

I plan to snip the cable and join again using bullit connectors or a similar system then heat shrink.

Now, this is my first Merc {2014 CLS 250 CDi W18, 24K miles} and first job where I need to disconnect the battery so can I simply disconnect the battery, fix the cable and connect the battery again or will things need to be rest etc after the battery has been disconnected?

Should just be the windows that need reset once you re-connect the battery.

We use in-line crimp connectors at work which should be more suitable for joining your wires , I have a pile of them in the garage along with the required crimping tool if it is any help.

Thanks KennyN.

Merc novice question coming up! What do you mean when you say windows need reset?

Or can the cable be snipped and repaired without disconnecting the battery?

Shit! We had a 3 year old range rover recovered to us as a none start, it was found that mr mouse really liked the sheathing around cables for his bed! Needed a whole new wiring loom

Thanks KennyN.

Just press the button to fully open the windows to the bottom and then up right to the top. Do them individually and it will restore the one touch feature. Even though they can be disconnected from the injectors without a problem, I would disconnect the battery to be safe. Don't want to short anything!

The car is still going strong, there is still a connection, albeit much weakened, but yes I'll need to get the cable fixed.
I'm not convinced the rodent was at my house in Glasgow (the days of slums in Glasgow are long gone lol). I was told the previous owner in Aberdeen had the car as a second car and it was stored away, hence its low mileage for its age, so im guessing the chewed cable is from when it was stored before my ownership (from June 2019).

OK, but the Aberdeen mice don't know that. They could still have had a munch of other things not visible without proper inspection after refusing to be extradited to Glasgow . They might have had a protest party when told that their mobile home was being moved to Glasgow against their will and invited their Rat friends around for a leaving dinner ?

You never know , cunning little buggers mice.

A soldered joint with heat sleeve is a much better way of fixing this, far less bulky and stronger.
Any Auto-electrician should be able to make a high quality repair for little cost.

That did give me a giggle :D

As per DSM10000, this needs shrink-wrap and soldering and then wrapping with engine-bay (high temp) loom tape if at all possible.

Seen a few chewed looms, including the suspension sensors wiring on a SL, which if it had failed would have suddenly dropped and got very bouncy to drive !!
