My Veba reversing camera is rated as IP67 and operates down to -40C. I have had no problems with condensation or rain. The trick is to mount the camera in an area that does not get covered quickly in mud. The lens cover is made of glass so it is easy to clean without scratching.
I plan to extend the system with a relay so that when the Equi-Trek is hitched up I will be able to see the horse and also the rear of the trailer. The vehicle reversing camera would then be bypassed.
Motion sensors might prevent a collision, but they would not help with the lining up process, and they certainly have no use in observing what is going on inside the trailer.
