I am trying to hard wire my sat-nav. Have found how to take out the centre console but need a wiring diagram to be sure I am correctly wiring up the accessory.

Anyone got a wiring diagram or tell me where I can get one reasonable??

211 comes apart like the 203.

if you search for my guides its really similar .

cables your looking for are the black/yellow is ignition sense and the brown is the earth. you can piggy back onto them via some scotch locks avalible in halfords. your after the blue ones.

get in touch if you need help

Contact MB Tech Support - they will email/fax it over - I have done this in the past not that long ago for W203/220 and Sprinter. Dont let the C/S adviser thob u off...

I will try and find the W203 info (they faxed and posted it to me...) - its lying around at hoem somewhere.

Cheers mate. I am OK stripping it down as I have a video of the component removal of all the dash components, and have tried them out. Only needed to know which wires were which.

Flash- Thanks W203 may be similar but the climate control is where I am trying to tap into.

What, your sat nav will only work with the blower on hot? :D

Intersting post, wifey bought me a nice shiney new Road Angel for my birthday. I too would be interested to know how and where you hid the wiring?

Paul.

Did you hide the wiring, if so how did you do it??

I thought you were gonna do that too , i wouldnt monkey about with something that you might get upset about if you break it :) i.e. the climate control :D

To get to the top part of the dash , remove the surround at the gearbox ,

take out the ashtray , this will also let you get into the wiring colours ive said above.

Remove the cover below the steering wheel on the drivers side with a few torx t15 or t20 screws .

Remove the fuse box cover on the drivers side

Remove the A Pillar and this should let you get into the front of the dashboard.

You then want to remove the climate control section you were gonna take out in the first place , and you should be able to run/feed the wire allong the front of the windscreen to the middle and up through the climate control display.

any questions? :D

So a certain amount of bravery is required :D

I will go have a look first, anything I should be carefull with removing?

Paul.

Hi Brian,
This reads very much like an "After you!" type situation. I am like others very interested in this modification and if you do have a go... I would love to see a 'How to' type thread.

Good luck,
John

Well I have done it, although I need to replace the final connections from the spade ends shown.

This is how it looks at the moment without the Sat-Nav Unit.

The procedure was thus: -

By the way I have a workshop video available to remove the necessary components available to those interested.PM me with e mail address.

1. Remove top grill.
2. Remove wooden strip below the dash, the long one.
3. Remove speaker from top grill and the centre console containing the climate control unit.
4. Unclip gear change cover and put automatic gearstick into drive position.
5. Pull out ashtray and unclip electrical connection.
6. Remove CD player. Tricky bit is removing the electrical connections.
7. Unscrew cover under drivers dashboard, allow to hang, but do not disconnect anything.
8. Feed cable down the back of the centre console behind the soundproofing white matting, use arm up from drivers side under dashboard. Feeding cable down behind the radio unit and into the ashtray area.
9. Using scotch locks connect live new cable to blue/grey wire feeding cigarette lighter. Do the same with earth wire to brown wire to cigarette lighter.
10. Put an in-line fuse into live wire in new cable near the scotch lock with 1.5A fuse.
11. Replace the centre console feeding the new wire through the same hole as the speaker cable, ensuring that the cable goes round the air vents in the centre console.
12. Cut in in-line connections in the new wire so that it can be disconnected when taking off the top grill cover in future, I used bullet connectors.
13. Feed cable through grill louvres and fit final connections.
14. Replace top grill and try power supply before refitting ashtray etc. Make sure you put the gearstick back in park first.
15, If all OK refit CD player, ashtray and gear stick cover, and finally cover under drivers dashboard.
16. Job done, have a large drink.

coolski , well done brian :)

You will notice that I have also mounted the displaced Garmin speaker, from the original cigarette lighter connection, on the back of the Garmin.

So i see. :) i had always wondered what to do with the speaker.

Brian,

I am going to try and be tactfull (never to late to start OK?).

You have obviously put effort into this, and I see you require a hardwired solution, that is removable, but this cannot be your finished solution?

The route throught the vent seems wrong - the back of dash would have been better, no?

I think a search of maplin or the RS catalogue would have found a better single connector joint - instead of two spade connectors.

It's just not right IMO.
