I need to replace the split wishbone bushes on my 300CE. Would someone give me a rough idea how I could expect to pay to have these replaced?

Ooops!

Left out the 'MUCH'. Should read - how much .........

I needed front wishbone bushes replacing on my W201. The wishbone setup on a W124 is virtually identical to that of a W201. My trusted MB specialist advised me that it would be almost as cheap, and certainly advisable to replace the complete wishbones - as it is possible to buy a complete wishbone with bushes and ball joints already fitted. It was good advice as when he removed the old wishbones (it took all of 10 minutes) he found the ball joints were shot. So this saved all the time and hassle of trying to extricate the old bushes, which can be a complete pain if they're stuck in, as they frequently are. Febi Bilstein wishbones are what he fitted to my car and are OEM quality. Even if you just replace the bushes, you will need new bolts and eccentric washers from MB and will have to have the tracking re-set. Hope this helps.

Just had mine done on my W202.

Both front wishbones were £217 from GSF and labour (granted by a work from home mechanic) was £140

Local Garage quoted £45 per hour plus vat so £210.

£357 on the good side £427+ on the bad side:devil:

Thanks . I'm in London, so I suppose my quote of £500 isn't unreasonable.

Be careful with non MB original wishbones as they will almost certainly have the bushes installed incorrectly, in the incorrect location and orientation. Make sure your mechanic knows how and where each of the different hardness bushes are supposed to be. OEM manufacturers get this wrong!!!

Assuming you have both complete wishbones, new bolts & wheel alignment - I'd say that's not too expensive for London.

No not unreasonable at all but like BlackC55 and a couple of the other guys said you'll need the tracking/alignment checked as well afterwards.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll have the work done next week, feeling I'm not being ripped off!
Thanks again.

you may be able to avoid tracking if you get the the techs to mark the position of the wishbone bolts before removal and to ensure thay go back on in same place.

you will already be getting unusual tyre wear with the bushes gone.

the benefit of new wishbones is you will also be getting new ball joint I assume - (check that is the case) as it is a critical part for safety.
