Only in my case, the head was do seized, that the removal tool simply stripped the the threads in the alloy heads.

What eventually did the trick, was a panel bearers' hydraulic jack set, borrowed from a friend's garage, after lifting the head about half inch. Something similar to this:

The year was 1985, BTW, and the car was an 1979 Alfetta 1.8.

Makes you realise how important the state of the antifreeze/coolant composition is with these open decked blocks!
