Worthless Junk?

Over the years I've amassed laptops, PC's, components, cards, power supplies etc. etc. This is through buying parts for my own PC's as well as working on others etc. I even have an IBM iSeries 170 (AS400) While I don't believe there's anything wrong with any component, I'm also pretty sure there isn't a complete working unit amongst it all. Well, perhaps one or two of the lap tops work. I must have 30 to 50 cards for all sorts... graphics cards, USB cards, Firewire, Sound, etc.

Anyway, my questions is this, is this the pile of worthless junk I think it is or does it have any value to anyone? I'm certainly not going to spend the time to list the individual items on eBay because I suspect most wouldn't sell and those that do would be for pence. I'm ready to put it all in the bin, but just wanted to check before hand that there isn't a shop or somewhere that might give me a few quid for it all as seen?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure there are charities out there that recycle this kind of thing :thumb:

I've been surprised at how much some people pay for old kit. Mobile phones are a good example. I'd be tempted to sell it as a single job lot on ebay?

I hope you were speaking metaphorically. It all falls under the WEEE Directive now, so putting it in the bin is a no-no.

FWIW, we had a large accumulation of cards, laptops etc at work that we needed to dispose of earlier this year and the best we could manage was finding someone to take it away without charging us for the pleasure.

Thanks for all the tips folks... I'm really not sure what to do with it. I think I'll have a look for a charity but I feel it's a pile of junk so not sure I should be lumbering anyone with it. By put it in the bin I of course meant take it to my local waste disposal depot and put it all in the correct designated area :)

Car boot it out of the back of the SL.... Love to see the picture

We have a company at work that we don't pay them and they don't pay us and its taken away. Hard drives formattted to miletary standard and a print out of everything taken / disposed of. Some is real rubbish (cases, motherboards from P3's 256mb ram etc)

Another company takes away the 'slightly' better stuff such as P4's, TFT's old laser printers and we actually get paid a 'small' amount for that.

One thing is if you have got hard drives either format them properly or destroy them you don't want people having access to your old data.

So far this is currently in our store room and I think its too good to throw, a 1979 superbrain with twin 5 1/4" floppys :)

Ah, my old friend the Superbrain, running CP/M
I remember writing a 'database' system in mbasic as a project.
It actually would have been faster using a rotadex system!
