Would the radio on a head unit from the USA work here?

I want to get the JVC KDAV-X1 but the cheapest I can find it here is £400 when in the states you could get it for about $550. I'm pretty sure RDS wouldnt work but would the normal searching and finding of radio stations work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Zishan

You wont be able to get very many stations.

ask the seller (or go to USA radio websites perhaps) what the frequency ranges are for the channels, eg here the FM range is approx 88 - 108. If its the same then yes you will get the radios - no US ones of course  but its not about the radio its about the frequency.

Of course another tac is if you see a US import car, as driven by US forces personnel over here - ask them

I've got one, I wouldn't recommend it if you listen to a lot or radio. On mine (an alpine) the frequency increments are 0.2. For example I can get 101.9 and 102.1 but not 102, as in Galaxy 102. Oh and RDS doesn't work either, but you knew that already.....

One MP3 CD is enough for me and i'm in love with the 3 inch screen on this head unit. It is also a dvd player so you can play movies on it too and it also has a video output if you ever want to hook up a proper sized screen to it.

ever considered one of those music 'kegs'? Kenwood do one...

I was considering getting the alpine ipod interface but realised my head unit had an aux input so this weekend I will be wiring up a jack to phono lead :)

40Gb of music in my car for about 99p :bannana:

Just wondering about the DVD? will it take PAL as well as NTSC films? I know I can change mine here on my computer but I only have about 3 changes before it becomes useless, of course I am probably wrong and others here will be able to correct me

You will be buying something that will not perform the functions you want, plus you will have to replace it when the car is eventually sold.

Basically it is useless for radio recption, why buy it?

John

i would prefer to pay the extra and get a fully functional one or fine an alternative at the right price....
