My better half has looked at a C250 TD Estate 99T 130K. she said it drove ok but pulled to left slightly as its a bit rusty she can have it for £1300 seems like a decent price I thought so I rang him up to sort it out.

I asked him about it and hes had it 3 years used it for towing and its had glow plugs springs, plug relay etc. and then he said

" the car is sold as seen no come backs"

I aked if it was all ok and he said

"as far I know its ok but I'm no mechanic, your wife drove it did she think it was ok"

That sent alarm bells ringing with me what does every one else think:confused:

Just check it yourself and if it sems Ok and straight, buy it.

I would expect any private seller to assume a position of no comebacks, buyer beware..

The 'it pulls to the left' bit would concern me.

Next.....

So many about why even have any doubt? you don't mnd putting up with some issues after all £1300 isn't a lot for a car but you still have a good choice.

At that mileage I'd be more interested in if the gearbox oil has been changed, especially as he says its been used for towing.

As for the rust, all 202 estates seem to rust worse than the saloons for some reason.

Thanks for that guys, I asked him in particular about the transmission, he said he just has the level checked before he sets out on holiday , last year it needed topping up but he says there has been no problems with it.

It could just be me but I would never say things like " sold as seen no comebacks" or "I'm no Mechanic you have driven it and you thought it was ok"'

I'd just say how it was either something was wrong, might be wrong or it was fine,

Perhaps I'm one of a dying breed;)

I've just had a look on Autotrader and fleabay its a good price for a 99 car with 130k.
At the moment I'm thinking I'll take a risk, after I sleep on it I'll probably change my mind though

You need to ask yourself 'why'? Leaking? Think I would walk away and look elsewhere....

There is always another one, doesn't sound like you'll be missing a once in a lifetime opportunity if you pass. Listen to your instincts!

Thanks for the advice guys I'm in 2 minds but I suppose if it looks too good to be true then it probably is

I keep saying it but get down the auction.

There was a white C250TD Estate on an R-Plate at BCA recently, had 89k with 11 stamps, bills and old MOT's.

The car made £1200 and a local cabbie bought it.
