The Sunday Times has an article about people driving off when hitting an unmanned car in a carpark. They said this is more likely to happen if the driver is young.

Do you think us Mercedes drivers are like that? We shall see.

Please vote in appropriate section, and I expect you to be honest please.

Hi

Having suffered the consequences of some b*****d driving off on the wifes car i would def not do this.

Personally, having been on the receiving end and coming back to my cars (I include my previous ones too) damaged in a carpark... if I had accidentally caused damage to another car I would hang around for a a fixed period for the owner to turn up, if they didn't show then I would leave a note under the windscreen giving my contact details.

Bloody frustrating when you're the one who's been done over though!

My (recently sold) Defender has aluminium panels that are flat and have very little resistance to dings. I have suffered 4 separate knocks - 2 on each door - in 3 years and I treat the people who did them as scum. Almost everyone I know has suffered this type of damage and feel just like me.

I have voted that I would not drive off. By the way I am 40 so there should be a category especially for me :D ;) :D

Definitely leave details,

My fault...... I would accept the consequences.

John old wrinkly section :)

Hi,

This is one of those 'have you stopped beating your wife' questions ;) .

Of course in this hypothetical situation (sitting at home/work with a cup of tea in front of your monitor etc. :D ) we (regardless of age) may 'honestly' vote no....but in an isolated car park, having had this happen to you before, what would you really do  .

A more suitable question may be " Have you ever driven off etc."? It would be interesting to compare the results of these hypothetical and 'real' polls.

Cheers,

I agree - and I also wonder how many of us have actually experienced someone waiting around to tell us they have just dinted our car. A rarity I would imagine . . .

I'd like to think I would own up. Never done it to date - hit someone that is ;) But it has been done to me and they didn't

:o :o My drug hazed brain has just suggested that my hands pressed the wrong button??

Brain to hands, brain to hands..... Press button 'B' over!

Hands to brain, hands to brain.... Button 'A' pressed over!!

Sorry about that.

Done.

Before anyone else says it - No we do not fiddle Votes - What is the point?

Every car I have ever owned has been damaged by persons unknown - from parking dings, through crumpled panels and nicked badges to wanton vandalism. I am now paranoid where I park or leave the car unattended.

However, in the highly improbable event that I was stupid enough to strike another parked car, I would take a totally subjective view, taking in consideration the type of car and likely driver (Neddy Nova, Saxo, Perudua Nippa, AM DB9, Maybach) then I would compare the damage to my car with with the one I struck.

So that's a definite maybe then :D

I'll vote for a 'yes over 40' just to get the ball rolling

Hmm. I would like to think I would be honest but then what would play on my mind is would they tell me if it was the other way round. Also on damage.

I would like to think I would not be daft enough to do it in the first place though.

We need another poll choice for the indecisive ones.

I would definitely leave a note when I (or my kids) would damage another person's car. In fact, that's what I did about half a year ago. My daughter opened the door of our car and slammed it into the car next to ours - even though I told her to carefully open her door...

Anyways, I wrote a note and left my info on it. And a couple of days later this guy was at the door to discuss this issue with me. And he told me NUMEROUS time that he was pleased with the way I took care of this!

... makes one feel good to hear this. ;)

greetingz,

BigSis

Now it all seems clear that you are all an honest bunch by the comments here....but i wonder how many people would really would hang around and put notes under windscreen wipers ?....i have had my car knocked about five times over the 27 years i have been driving and have never been left a note under my windscreen wipers. My wife has had her car knocked about three times and has never had a note put under her windscreen wipers...

My wife recently slowly rolled into the back of a taxi at a set of traffic lights...no damage to the taxi she hit...guy got out swearing and cursing ..as some small men do to lone women.....clutching his neck claiming whiplash......Its a very dog eat dog world out there, not full of the once law abiding citizens that once walked the earth ........????The question would i leave my details......hmmmm to be perfectly honest that is a definite "depends" for me....

So far, 12 people have said that they would drive off after hitting another car
Just make sure it's not my car and I see you do it
