Hi guys

I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction...
I'm planning to ship my car overseas as i'm moving away from the UK
so in preparation for this I need to get a official written valuation. Its for the customs clearance on the other side as i dont wanna get stung with unrealistic valuation (so i guess a lower valuation is better for me in this case!):D

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Pav

Something from a reputable establishment..
So if i go to a merc garage they will print me a official valuation letter?

Thanks Jay

Can anyone recommend me a specialist around the Manchester area? (In the meantime i will search the forum to see if there are any recommended in previous posts)

The official owners club have valuers who provide this service , usually for agreed value insurance purposes . If such valuations are acceptable to insurers , I would imagine they will be acceptable for your purposes too .

You need to be a club member and there is a fee for valuation . You need to take your car to one of the valuers - they are located in most regions across the country .

Depending upon where you are exporting the car you may not get a lot of flexibility in this approach. Some countries base their import taxes and registration fees based upon their own book values. A valuation may help you but they may need more than one.

Have you checked the rules for the country to which you're looking to export the car to?

If you're actually moving as well the rules are likely to be slightly more in your favour as opposed to exporting cars to other family members.

Can you not just drive it there.....Not export/import duty at all then...(Depending on where you are going of course):D:bannana:

I've checked the export rules plus my wife works in the government and has spoken to the customs official, who advised that an official valuation should be accepted as long as its from a reputable firm.

Ahh, if your wife works in the government I'm sure that makes life a bit easier.

Just worried about the 'should be accepted'. In some countries you may need to 'grease a few palms' to speed things up. They will quite often use technicalities to stall things, suddenly if you're able to pay 'a bit extra' they can do the paperwork in a couple of days instead of weeks!!!

ah yes the greasing of palms :) I'm trying to do everything by the book so i don't have to 'pay out' certain officials.. it does help having various family members in the 'system' but i don't want to take the p*** with it :)

shame - that rules out printing the valuation page from WeBuyAnyCar.com! If nothing else it would be massively undervalued, useful for tax reasons!

That would be fun!! but alas i dont think it will float on water :D

Go to the Glass's Guide website and for £3 they will give you a full valuation, which you can download, showing part ex value, private sale and dealer prices. No valuation could be better as they are based on real deals bt dealers all around the country and are the most used valuation tool by dealers.

Hawk, thanks for that I downloaded the glass report. Its funny when you want a high valuation you typically get quite low ones but when you need a lower valuation you get higher ones... sods law hey! :dk:
