Hi,

Had a look underneath my 2006 ML and was surprised to see significant corrosion on the rear sub-frame and on the floor around the sub-frame mounting points. Neither area is in a position that gets a lot of spray so I was a little surprised. If left untreated I think this would cause serious problems (MOT fail) in the next few years.

Anyone else noticed this ?

Cheers

Andy

Nope, not noticed rust on your car (having never seen it)

On a more serious note, get MB to inspect it - even though their rust warranties are an industry wide joke.

My ML is supposed to be the same underneath and there's no significant rusting on mine.

A little bit of surface rust on some parts, but nothing even remotely MOT-worrying.

If you think it needs grinding down to bright metal and repainting, by all means go ahead, but it's a dirty unpleasant and (no doubt) very expensive.

To ease your concience, why not spray plenty of Waxoil on the rust patches?

So long as you dilute it 50-50 with engine oil it should put off for many years that heartbreaking moment where the MOT tester says "needs welding".....

Not sure MB are going to be that interested given the age of the car. Definitely needs some attention and it's not just to ease my conscience. Was just surprised to see it in a car like this without obvious signs of having a hard life.

I'd be interested to hear how much to repair it.

Sounds labour-intensive..
