Well the 2006 GL has had a few interesting weeks since I had the gearbox TCU repaired. Shortly afterwards started getting all sorts of warning messges. Some were for systems that were not fitted to the car such as Distronic! I thought it must be something weird had happened when the TCU was repaired; like the wrong software update. Took it back to local indy who soon discovered a small swimming pool in the passenger footwell. Central gateway was stuffed and it was fingers crossed about the other equipment in there such as HK amp etc. Once the gateway was replaced all looked well but the source of the water was a mystery. Suspect number one was the drain from the cabin filter intake; this was good though as I was aware of this problem. Weird thing was that the water was very stale indicating it had been in there a while but I have had the car for just about a year with no sign of water in the car (smell or misty windows). I had not done any fording or off roading so was at a bit of a loss. Indy stuck with it and eventually discovered water was coming in from the wheel arch. Body sealant had cracked allowing a way in, not visible due to the arch liner which guides water from some engine bay drains right over the area of damaged sealant. Being a bit of a pessamist I'm fitting a battery powered moisture alarm in the footwell (couple of quid from Ebay) just for some peace of mind. Had the EIS replaced too while it was in as I knew this was faulty but wasn't causing a big problem. The ignition would not switch off if it was cycled without an engine start. All in all an expensive month for Big G. Hats off to MB Pentangle in Southampton, very impressed with their ability to stick with it and think outside the box.
