Any decent freeware for changing the Taskbar/Start button colours and/or for creating one's own theme?

I mean, the built in XP Silver colour scheme, for example. Why does the Start button stay green???

TIA

not sure about freeware, but there are a number of shareware stuff out there. Something like;

Object Desktop is pretty good, but can hog up some memory and take longer to load up. Also you might want to try out DesktopX from the same company.

or

SphereXP which gives XP a virtual 3D desktop. Its actually pretty good, but is in development stages and so can be very buggy. Again, if you use heavy applications, expect to find that your pc slows down.

Hope that helps :)

Try StyleXP from tgtsoft. Not freeware but very good shareware.

*EDIT* They also used to distribute a little freeware utility called 'uxthemepatcher' but I think it has long since disappeared from their site. You maybe able to find it elsewhere on the web though.

Cheers, MF. SphereXP looks cool but I imagine it's resource hungry!

Cheers Steve, looks good also.

The good thing about StyleXP is that you can run the program without eating into OS resources.

Windoze eats up all the resources so there isn't anything left for any other application! :D (joke)

I use Windowblinds, not free but doesn't slow down your pc and has some great themes.

SphereXP is great to play with but not really useable in serious way. Needs an interface like Tom Cruise had in a film I can't remember the name of where he was waving his hands about to pluck things out of the air

That must be Minority Report you're thinking of :) You are sooo right about that resemblence!

Mind you.. SphereXP its great when you have friends round and you need to load up something on your pc and then their jaws drop when they see the whole 3d effect .... kinda like something very different.. and makes your PC look like something from another dimension. The novelty soon wears off

There are some great themes out there for WindowsBlinds and the other stuff mentioned (except SphereXP) and since most of the themes are free, its worth making the small investment in the application that you choose.

Yep, I currently use a Mac theme on mine. Best of both worlds, Mac looks with PC useability

Perhaps we should create a 'Post your Desktop' thread. :D
