frightening.

A car that is less than 6 years old has needed £14k spending on it in servicing, repairs and bodywork.

No wonder they sell for peanuts

I dread to think how much this would cost in modern day terms, but who cares. Thank goodness owners bother to get the car serviced rather than simply changing the oil\filter and then resetting the service indicator :)

Did this S-class sell? Looking at the price, I wonder how much a cheaper S320CDI would sell for? 2001 models are £18000 - £19000

John

Car identical to this went through at BCA Bedford (auction) yesterday. Was a dark blue, was a nice motor on a W plate. Sold for £8750

There's a 2001, with Comand on Autotrader at the mo at £14500!:D 78,000 miles, not even run in yet!! My only concern is the rust issue in these cars, but I think this has been covered elsewhere:rolleyes: :p

My Dad's former 2004 W220 almost had a full respray due to rust and we just paid for the plastic bumpers to be resprayed for a good match. The car has now been sold...

Nice cars though apart from the rust...

I get really annoyed when I read about the awful condition of relatively new Mercedes-Benz. What on earth were Daimlerchrysler doing when they made this HUGE blunder. Does Hyuandi, Skoda or any of the other so called cheaper brands suffer as badly? I have no idea, but this rust issue is a huge embarrassment.

I am monitoring the 211 threads with great interest. The first signs of rust and goodbye E-class. So far I have only heard about the black beading being a problem, rust, rust and away.  :)

Aaargh!!! So the W220's suffer from rust too? Our (Dad's) W220 is still fine (touch wood). By comparison my mates W210 E280 is horrendous, he's kicking himself now that he dind't keep a main dealer SH...

The w220 suffers from rust as much as any other mercedes. On our's we've had all 4 arches and 2 of the doors painted due to rust. We bought the car signature approved (whatever assurance thats intended to give) and it had previously had paintwork, so Mercedes declined a claim under rust warranty. All in Im very disappointed with it, in the past year total spend has been in excess of £6000.

Unfortunately, yes.

We were very surprised as the late face lift cars 2004 onwards (which had nano paint) were supposed to have been treated/prepared better prior to the paint being applied at the factory.

Arches/lower part of doors are a real hot spot for rust on the W220.

Mine has been fine.
