year 2000 W210 E240 catalytic converter

petrol V6 E240, 85,000 miles and we have 207E fault code showing which is poor cat performance left bank.

Is there some magic way of rejuvenating a catalytic converter - some magic chemical, have a bonfire under it, poke it with a stick etc ?

Failing that are there any pattern/aftermarket cats worth fitting that wont upset the cars brain and keep tripping the engine management light?

Or how much does a genuine cat cost - any clues?

Or do I just ignore the orange light and reset every time it comes on - apart from increased stink out the back end what problems might poor cat performance give?

Any thoughts ?
