Well all i can describe replacing this job as is a right pain in the **** !!!!!!!
Car is a 2008 E320, full main dealer history and 100,000 miles on the clock, car darted loosing it's kick down and turbo...sort of a limp mode, no MIL on dash board, but it was just not right.
Car went onto star diagnostics, fault code came up as inlet port shut off valve, despite trying to actuate it it was having none off it.
Am i the only person that thinks the designers of this otherwise excellent engine were having a laugh and joke when they decided where to install this motor............even bloody worse designing it with plastic control arms, linkages and flaps........wheres the sense in that ???????.
Anyway rant nearly over, after about 3 hours i eventually remove everything and remove this troublesome little *******, to then have another kick in the teeth, the controls rods where bloody solid, doing nowt, well after another nearly 3 hours, both manifolds are out.......now being as sick as a pig and fed up.......by this time i had also spoken to Merc to price the new manifolds.......ouch !!!!!!!!!!.
So i then started to have a good look at the gunged up manifolds, fortunately i managed to get the flaps moving a bit so am soaking them in degreaser and penetrating fluid for a few days, am pretty confident i can get them working freely and properly........downside is that only on one flap the plastic bar that operates the 3 flaps has oval, this means that when 2 flaps are fully open one flap is only half open........using plastic for this must be one of the stupidist ideas ever in the history of stupid ideas.
Before i check with Merc in the morning, does any one know if these rods are available as separate parts ?????
One final thing which i think helped free the flaps was i put both manifolds in the dishwasher, maybe a tip for the next poor soul doing this job....hopefully it has saved £800 plus VAT for the manifolds, have ordered all new gaskets so picking them up tomorrow, will let you know the cost and how i get on..........wish me luck!!
To be continued !!!!
