Regrets?

I regret not buying an MG ZTT estate prior to that (really fancied that at the time)

Had one, great looking car and emptied outside lanes like nothing as the Police in Glasgow had a few traffic cars. Pity the BMW parts kept failing and the Austin sourced dip stick was too short. Started to eat itself.

Buying an A45 AMG new in 2015,it nearly cost me my licence but had some fun in it for 9 months and took a big depreciation hit when I sold it but your only here once!

Selling the following:

1973 Range Rover in Masai red

1974 Range Rover in Tuscan Blue

1974 Range Rover in Lincoln Green

1958 Land Rover

1980 Audi Quattro Turbo in Saturn bronze

Orange Fiat Barchetta

All great cars apart from the Quattro that was nothing but trouble, but would know be worth some serious money, as would all the Land Rover products

Kenny, buying into Mercedes was special in the past to about I think maybe 2005.

That specialness died with leasing, poor dealers and quite frankly poor cars till the 204 came. It’s never regained it specialness across the range like before, just at the upper unaffordable echelons of the brand.
Can we please say 2006 (that's close enough to 2005) , My C55 AMG Estate is a 2006 :)

Me and my mate washing, polishing then me clipping the front wing of his dad's new-ish 1971 Hillman Hunter as I drove it back into the garage. We were 16. I still blush when I remember telling him. He was a complete gent and didn't even tick me off.

In 1984, turning down a 1971 MGB roadster, in white with the metal bumpers and wire wheels, immaculate for £100!

Not buying a TVR!!

I bought a brand new RS Megane 225 back in 2006, it cost me £16.5k from a broker which was only just below the cost of a used TVR Tuscan at the time.

I actually still have that Megane and it's incredibly low mileage, not worth much but at least a bit interesting as they're rare cars. I'm glad to still have the Megane but if I'd have done what I planned I'd have sold it after 2-3 years, put my money into an older TVR Tuscan for around the £20k mark which would be worth considerably more now. That said it would have cost me a lot more to own in the long run.

So it's kind of a regret but then again maybe I wouldn't have my CLS63 if I had done so who knows.

Deciding to rebuild the perfectly good XK engine of my Mk7 Jag just because I had it out to replace the clutch. Not a wise choice for a first engine rebuild at 18 and without any guidance. New piston rings, new shells, polished heads, reground valves, etc. This oh so naive young amateur mechanic foolishly didn’t match the big end halves, thinking it wasn’t needed with new shells. When I finished putting everything together and refitted the engine, surprise surprise - it wouldn’t turn over. I didn’t work out what I’d done wrong at the time and wasted endless hours fiddling with the timing to no avail. I never did get the car going again and finished up towing it to a scrapyard.

It must have been around that time that I forked out £7k for ‘69 MGB Roadster. Sold it in 1996 for .......... £7k.

I haven't done it yet, but one day rising insurance costs, if nothing else, will force me to sell the SLK.

I didn’t regret it at the time because travelling the world was great but I kind of wish I still had my E reg RS500 Cosworth in black.
I chopped in a C reg mk1 RS Turbo to get it. That’d be nice to have as well.
I chopped in an A reg mk1 Golf GTI Campaign to get the Escort!!

Can you see a pattern here??

Taking Wendy out on a first date in my Triumph Stag, rather than her sister Karen.
Sister Wendy, yep Ted, I get what you're saying.

Biggest regret must be seeing my Ford Capri's (all 3 of them), Ford RS2000 and Ford Escort Mexico. Sold them all for hundreds of pounds each and they're now likely worth thousands.

Selling my ’77 Porsche 911 for £7500 back in 1991 and my ’89 420SL for £9500 in 2004. Two cars I should have held on to!
