what was your first car and was it what you wanted or did the parents have an input

Audi 90 2.2, manual ,sunroof, tornado red grey cloth.New in 1988 came to me in 1992 with 84000 miles for the sum of £5300. I was 22 at the time. I havd had some vans before that for work but this was the first car i owned and alongside my Transit. Owned for about 4 months collected a speeding ticket and a court appearance for a smidge over a ton on the M62. Kept my licence collected some points(took me to 9) and that afternoon i parked it on a slope outside the house i was working on and it rolled away into somebodys garden and was written off. Parents were long gone from my life so no influence there but my uncle had steered me towards an executive marque over the XR/GTE Fords and Vauxhalls i was eyeing up.

A 1980 Silver Subaru 1.6 DL estate , I had no input but loved it none the less..

Sold it after a year and bought a 1979 orange 2.0 Cavalier sportshatch which I parked in a tree ..

haha i was 'advised' to get a cortina . so i bought a mk1 escort 1300 sport . in daytona yellow of course . for the princely sum of £330 showing my age i know )

Mine was a Ford Cortina MK3. First car I ever drove (after getting license) was an 1984 Opel Manta GTE coupe. It had the twin headlight conversion, fiberglass bonnet and tiny alloy wheels. I ran that for the first half of university and then switched to an E30 BMW 318i that I kept until after I left for the states.

In between, I bought a Mercedes Benz 250CE that the car was the car that I kept for the longest period of time. I bought it in 1993 when I was 19 and restored it during University. I kept it at my parents for 14 years after I left the country and eventually gave it to a neighbor in 2014 to use for parts after he knocked on my parents door when the engine in his car blew up.

Apparently, even though it had not run for 14 years, he was able to air up the tires and give it a jump and it drove away. That might have been the happiest day of my parents life.

then followed by an opel manta 1.9 berllinetta coupe . that was a nice car for £900

Mk1 Escort 1300E , purple / black vinyl roof , purchased for £80.

Owned for aprox 120s before stacking it into a MK2 Escort at a junction as the tyres were knackered , roads were wet and i had no clue how to drive a car properly.

Plod turned up ask for my particulars , of which i had none - at least the car was taxed which was all it had.

Eleven points were applied to my provisional licence, which nearly hurt as much as the clout round the head i got from my dad for being so f***ing stupid.

The shame of my first car still haunts me. My step mom's hand me down; I give you a VW polo Derby salon, 3 door, massive 1.05 ltr engine.

Thank god I got company cars for years after that

1988. I was 21.
The Golf GTI was the car to have and I desperately wanted one. I’d just gone self employed and my fathers input and advice into that particular decision was to buy an Escort van.

I listened to what he had to say, ignored him and bought a black 1983 mk1 Golf GTI with Pirelli alloys and the twin headlamp set-up. It’s probably long gone now. A392 FPK.

I think it was about £3500-4000 and I got a bank loan to cover it. The loan was pretty much paid by all the scrap lead I had. ;)

Golf MK2 Driver 1.6 (was a GTI lookalike) I really wanted the 1.8 but insurance wouldn't touch me. was 17 at the time in 2005

mattc i was laughing at the 1300E post , but to be honest yours was close )) no offence )

Pug 305 for a year then moved onto Reno 5 turbo. After that the power bug got me and I have owned well over 30 performance cars since. Currently building a Audi S3 that should be around 380bhp for the summer months :)

1968 Mini 1000 in Almond green with pale green vinyl interior. Very very basic but I kept it for 7 years. Cost £325 and sold for £550 so not too bad. Probably now worth several thousand if its still around.

VW Beetle 1302S. 1600cc. 1971J registration. Clementine orange. Pretty ropey after a hard life when I got it in 74, so dismantled the body work and hand sprayed it in my parents garage, added all the VW chrome accessories, vinyl sprayed the inset panels on the bonnet in black (like two beetle wings) and added “boom tubes” for the exhaust. Learned to drive in it.

My Dad found it but I bought it and loved it!

Ford Anglia estate. Reg No. AHC537B. Trashed 2 engines then fitted a 1500cc from a mk1 cortina. 7.5j on the rear and 5.5j wolfrace wheels on the front. 6 inch jack up on the rear, no back seats, thrush side pipes, tinted windows. Thought it looked the dogs bollocks.

Well I bought a Ford Cortina Mk1 in Goodwood Green,it was a 1965 model and I bought it in 1968,I still remember the reg EYT864C,

mate of mine had an anglia we were 5 up by the local shops when a leaf spring went through the rotten floor and we ended up sliding down the road on its side , happy days )
