What were Audi style lights? Maybe I have been out of touch with fashion for even longer than I thought! My beloved Fiesta!
It was a 1.4 petrol, with 17" Wolfrace alloys and some 'Audi style' headlights! Not to mention the smoked out rear lights and a big fat exhaust!
Pretty safe to say I wouldn't be caught dead in it now but at the time, lets just say it was period correct
Haha! You ain't alone pal, I can actually remember them being described as 'Audi style' and thinking 'I'll have some of that!' as it sounded so cool at the timeWhat were Audi style lights? I just have been out of touch with fashion for even longer than I thought!
Ahhhh got you!Haha! You ain't alone pal, I can actually remember them being described as 'Audi style' and thinking 'I'll have some of that!' as it sounded so cool at the time
The LED lighting pattern was similar to that of the MK1 R8. As pictured:
I’ve never seen a GTI on a T plate. That must have been an press car or a demo. Earliest I’ve seen has been on a V reg.Mine was a mk1 golf gti (CRC257T) in 1989 loved driving that up and down the autobahn
There forces plates but was 1978-9I’ve never seen a GTI on a T plate. That must have been an press car or a demo. Earliest I’ve seen has been on a V reg.
Using angle iron to fix some spots made me chuckle, I did the same on my second car a ford cortina estate £700 in 1988, I've still got the Haynes manual, bet you wished you had kept hold of that lambretta?1968 at the age of 16 I worked weekends at a local garage in Bristol , owned by former Rootes rally driver Ian "Tiny" Lewis , serving petrol and valeting cars . On saturday afternoons I was the only one working and on one occasion had a Gordon Keeble to valet. As the garage was on a one way system I thought I would drive it around the block, after all I had a years road use on my Lambretta! . Frightened the bloody life out of me. A couple of weeks later someone part exchanged a grey Mini Van ( I think it was a 1962 model, reg. FFF574) . Other than having a sticky exhaust valve it was very tidy so I asked the boss how much he would let me have it for . £40 later I got my dad to drive it home , a mate skimmed the head and fitted a new valve for £3 ( he was a mechanic at the local Vauxhall dealer) . Serious custom work was carried out , black vinyl rally seat covers ( bought from mothers "club catalogue", £6 a pair) , a bit of angle iron and two non working spotlights attached to the grille ,the chrome tailpipe from my Lambretta "outrigger silencer , and a six inch wide matt black stripe from the bonnet and down the back doors. Finishing touches were the plywood dashboard and aluminium gear knob , very "rally". Almost forgot , also had a pair of air horns.
Very very cool, one of my favourite cars for little reason more than the way it wears that incredible colour.I also had the Mk2 special edition gti 16v in oak green from new 1989 (HFLZ 156) not available in the uk ,oak green was only available from 1991
Wish I had kept the Lambretta ( cost me £5 for a series 1 LI 125 and £3 for a smashed series 2 LI 150 , from which I removed the headlight and fitted it to replace the series 1 light as being fixed to the front legshields it just pointed straight ahead when you went around corners and had the engine converted to a whopping 175cc ) . I later bought a Vespa SS180 for £30 and sold it for £10 when the MOT expired , DOH!Using angle iron to fix some spots made me chuckle, I did the same on my second car a ford cortina estate £700 in 1988, I've still got the Haynes manual, bet you wished you had kept hold of that lambretta?
My 6th car was an Allegro, 1300, with the square steering wheel, two door, in Harvest Gold, in fact ticking every one the ‘uncool’ boxes. It even had ‘sheepskin’ seat covers.....”Allegro”
