Thermostat changed and problem fixed. Thermostat was located in an inaccessible area so the mechanic had to do it. Took him over 3 hours! £200 Labour.

Thermostat is part number A2742000615 from Merc £120. I'm going to try and do it myself; if it looks too complicated I'll take it to my local garage.

Dryce, that's very true about petrol and diesel; I should have been more clear - I was referring to petrol only and only as a rough guide.....but it is a guide that has always worked well for me.... until now. My W212 is very uneconomical... I would be lucky to get 40mpg on a 70:30 split...

I think it's quite cheeky of the manufacturer to include an extra 10% reserve fuel tank and not mention this in the official specification. When I buy a car I don't pay much attention to the official MPG which, as we all know is nowhere near reality.......instead I look at the fuel tank size...

I used my local non Mercedes standard garage in North West London. I didn’t have a warning message before the pads were replaced. The message appeared after the new pads were installed lol! Ok I guess I need new sensors. Is there 4 sensors in total?

I doubt the garage replaced the sensor, I didn’t even know there was a sensor until today! So the sensors gets replaced with the new brake pads ?

I’d like a more permanent solution ;)

Thanks for that. The brake pad warning message comes on every time I switch the car on. Anyway to get rid of it completely?
