Has anyone managed to do this successfully?

I have spent quite a time trying to do this &amp; only succeeded in fraying my patience &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I have followed the instructions in the manual but.....

I think there must be something they are not telling us!

I would imagine that you need a special electronic tool to reset it, or it is done through a computer connected to the car.

This is certainly how it is done on BMW's and I guess MB's are the same.

It is probably a way of making you take it to MB for servicing rather than any other garage that may not have the means of doing it.

I know it tell's you how to do it in my manual as well.

I remember it meant doing about 5 things at once, so after reading it twice I gave it up as a bad idea <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> .

It looks so simple too , just pressing buttons on the cluster and turning the key a few times to diferent positions.

I was wondering them telling how to do it. ...

Maybe it was a light hearted suggestion on their part ...

yep, hold down your eyelid, while standing on one leg, then turn the key one position to the right, while pressing the + and the 0 button on the cluster for 5 seconds, without letting go turn the key around 3 times, then spin yourself 3 times, there will be a 3 second tone if it worked and a 3.5 second tone if it didn't work.

they're just having a laugh I'm sure.

I must be really really really clever then.

When I purchased my car it was from a Ford dealer who serviced it, but didn’t reset the ASSYST. I managed to do it following the instructions in the manual.

And before anyone says it, I know really really really clever people DON’T buy cars from Ford <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

So any tips on how you did it, Black?

I tried about ninety times....I just gave up before I set fire to the car in frustration! &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

TIA

This is the instruction from my handbook which worked for me. I'm aware that yours is a different model and hope there are no adverse effects. &nbsp;Anyway here goes:

To reset service indicator:

Turn the electronic key to position 2 in the ignition lock and immediately press button 0 twice within one second.

Turn the electronic key back to position 0 in the ignition lock.

Press and hold button 0.

Turn the electronic key to position 2 in the ignition lock.

Keep button 0 pressed.

Service display with current remaining distance or remaining time appears.

After about 10 seconds, an acoustic signal will sound and the service display with the new starting distance or starting time appears for about 10 seconds.

Release button 0.

Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.

Yep...Those are the same instructions I was following.

I have tried it quickly &amp; I have tried it waiting for the ignition off immobiliser time out, both methods didn't work for me.

Was the spanner symbol displayed throughout the sequence?

Mine goes off after about seven seconds into the ten.

Sorry, but to be honest I can't remember <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

My Latin's a bit rusty, what's your signature all about?

Nice one.

......it is only the depth that varies!

I always think it is quite appropriate!

What manual are you guys reading these instructions from?

The Handbook? Which Section?

Graham,

Have a look in your Interior handbook, page 25, ASSYST (Service Interval Indicator).

That’s where I found it.

Nige,

Any joy yet?

Nope!....Not yet.

I will probably try it again in a few days time.

OK Sorted now.

I asked at the local dealer when I was there picking up a couple of parts. One of the mechanics did it for me, but I didn't quite see how he did it, so I am no wiser.

At least it will be OK now for quite a while &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

Just to add, above method works on a pre facelift W210. Dealer had forgotten to do it...
