Hi All

I'm currently in the process of getting my car sorted through insurance and they have provided me with a few repairers however given the color of the car (Magno/Satin) the insurance company repairers have refused to do the job as they cannot guarantee the work.

I have been advised i can take the car to any repairer i want to get the job done, ideally i want to give it directly to Mercedes anyone recommend a Main dealership or a Mercedes body shop that i can take my car into to get sorted? Happy to travel anywhere in the UK as in the insurance company will cover the cost of transporting the car to where it needs to be taken.

Any recommendations will be of great help!

Much Appreciated.

This lot are superb. Car Body Repair | Kraftwork Vehicle Refinishing | Chelmsford. They have done some amazing work on our son's classic Volvo. They also recently worked on his Ioniq 5 which was botched by the Hyundai approved body shop. When the detailers collected it to reapply the ceramic coating they had to phone the bodyshop to find out exactly which areas they had painted. The finish was so good they couldn't spot it!

I did this many years ago when British Oxygen trashed the door of my 450SLC. Within a year the door was the rustiest part of the car.

Maybe best to find a genuinely good body shop.

Checking them out now! thanks for the feedback!

Which part of the car needs paint?......with that matte paint its even more difficult to match that the glossy stuff.....for example if its a front wing you will need to do the whole side and blend it up the pillars to get even half a chance of a match. If its the third parties insurance you might be OK...if its your own they will just want to spray the minimum.....often just the damaged area. Unusual that they will pay for transport to the sprayers.......must be a good company.

I was side swiped by a dpd lorry last month. My Insurers referred me to the Steer Automotive group with about 50 garages in the uk. They did an amazing repair and paint job.

A couple of weeks ago I was speaking to a sales rep at Mercedes Newcastle (Sytner), he said the body shop they use/have (not sure if it's in house or not) have had some very good results with work done on Magno paint. I asked him specifically due to it being a Mercedes paint and I would imagine they have had the most experience with that particular finish.
I'm sure there are quite a few body shops around the country that would be able to do a good job with Magno paint, but like you, I would rather trust whoever the dealerships repeatedly use.
I haven't seen any of their work, I'm only going off what I was told.

Technology has moved on, repair techniques and experience with this paint finish has broadened. We don't need to take any notice of the tutts, sighs and sucking through clenched teeth whenever Magno paint repairs are mentioned.

Whoever you use, I hope you get a great match and please report back with the results. Knowledge of a good Magno repair shop will put many people's minds at ease and maybe quieten a few too.

You've dodged a disaster there. Most insurance "approved" repairers are approved for their low costs; and the end results show. Most people don't notice a shade difference or other defect - and so the cheap nasty repairers get away with it - and it will be at least 2 years before the lacquer starts to peel or it starts to microblister. Repairs done properly are not cheap because they require skilled people, quality materials and time to prepare.

@MYE63
How did you get on. I hope you had good results with whoever you used.

For the benefit of anyone else needing Magno paint repairs in the future, I can highly recommend Sytner Newcastle in-house paint shop. I’ve just got my car back after a full panel respray and to my untrained but highly critical eye, I can’t see any difference between it and the other adjoining panels.
I’m very pleased with the results.
