Hello,
wondering if any members can advise if it is possible to have the ntg2 in my newish (to me) 2006 CLK 350 Sport convertible replaced with a ntg2.5 unit and if so can the navigation maps be updated, by the sd card slot perhaps?
There is a Bluetooth module adapter in the armrest but I can’t seem to be able to connect my iPhone (as I can in my GLA) am I being too optimistic?
The analogue clock can’t be corrected, I’ve read others have the same problem, any solutions found?
Many thanks for any advice!

Not worth it! I have NTG2.5 in my SLK and the last map update ever from MB is 2018-19, so already 4 or more years out of date! Have NTG4 in the S204, not been told MB have stopped issuing updates for that but again the most recent update is 2018-19!!

Noted, and thanks!

There's quite a few threads on here and the MBOA forum about replacing old clunky Comand systems with modern Android systems, some looking quite "OEM" similar and incorporating the steering wheel controls. Others say cheapest way is forget Comand clunky and expensive to update satnav and use Waze on your phone instead!

Thanks again and I’ll look for the threads, particularly the OEM looking ones. Using Waze or similar is an easy option as I’ve used my iPhone in my GLA when the nav system has struggled to find a location. Some of the features on replacement systems have no, or little interest for me, such as streaming and I’m satisfied with the HK sound, so high end sophistication isn’t essential for me. MBOA forum?

Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums, occasionally referred to as "t'other side" on here just as this forum has the same moniker over there! Many like me are registered to both, often with the same user name.

There is no NTG2.5 that fits in the CLK. This is because CLK was never facelifted as W207 E class coupe came out.

If you have the black HFP adapter, the bottom of the face is a button, press it down for about 10 seconds until the light starts flashing faster. Then search for bluetooth devices on your phone, code is 62872

I would consider an aftermarket touchscreen CarPlay unit in there (especially if you dont have Harmon Kardon sound system). But you need it done by a Mercedes specialist that can re-code the instrument cluster to let you set the time/date (such as us, [email protected] )

The time/date setting can be fixed on your existing system, but requires a special map update. Talk to [email protected] for that !

Thanks for the information Richard and for all the many, many other posts by you that I’ve read relating to MB problems in general.
1, The car had a Bluetooth adapter when I bought it. It’s blue and silver and appears to be working.
The VIN shows the car having this:
354 ANTENNA FOR TELEPHONE D/E-NET
386 MOBILE PRE.-INSTALLATION (MTUS)
Does this help in any way?
2, My car does have the Harmon kardon sound system which to my untrained ear, produces excellent sound. Should I decide to change the ntg2 would any replacement be compatible with the HK sound?
You suggest a touchscreen, have you any thoughts on the Erisin ES6969 which I found by googling after a member suggested that OEM looking ones may be available.

I’ll look at [email protected] re. the clock. Is that a different company from [email protected] ?
Thanks again,
David

The HK complicates things as the speakers are all connected to a separate (HK) amplifier which the head unit controls. Although old the ntg2 is a good unit if it works. The sat nav is well out of date though. When I had the same unit in my GL I sometimes used google maps through my phone. Audio only instructions linked via a Bluetooth FM transmitter. Worked great for live traffic. The MMI works great, I used an old iPod for music collections which had controls through the steering wheel and dash display. The phone should work fine with your adapter. In short upgrading is possible but it will be quite a few bucks just to get Apple play.

The ntg2 seems to work okay as does the Harmon kardon system. I assumed that replacing it with ntg2.5 would be straightforward (for a professional company) as it looks similar but I see now that’s not the case! It’s all working fine so I’ll probably just leave it as is. As noted, the navigation is out of date and can’t be updated so I’ll have use my iPhone if needed. I’ve just replaced Navmii with Waze but I’m lost with “via a Bluetooth FM transmitter “ and “The MMI works great”. I listen in the car to FM or cd’s and in my GLA an old iPhone which I use as an iPod. Apple play I don’t need.
connecting my iPhone with the Bluetooth adapter and car is proving difficult - for me! Pressing “settings” on the ntg2 doesn’t bring up Bluetooth although the adapter is flashing and flashes faster when the discoverable button is pressed but my iPhone can’t “see“ it. Any advice would be welcome!!

Hi David, just about everything with modern ice is not that straightforward! The ntg2 only has phone integration for calls. This is done through the adapter in the armrest. You pair your phone with that and then you can make and receive calls via the ntg2. To play music from the phone the easiest way is via a Bluetooth FM Transmitter. These plug into the 12v socket and transmit your music via a FM frequency to the ntg2 as radio. Pretty basic but they are cheap and let you listen to waze instructions too. If your car has an MMI interface it will have a socket in the glovebox that take a special lead. Works well and gives you some steering wheel controls and status display on the ntg2.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for your reply and advice. I’ve found the FM Bluetooth transmitter and will be ordering one in the next few days. It looks as though one can also connect a USB stick to them, maybe reproduction quality isn’t too good? We’ll see.
I am still having problems connecting the phone to the adapter and then the ntg2. My iPhone is searching for a device, the adapter is sending the correct signals - stead flash when on & faster flash when discoverable - but my phone doesn’t see it. It’s not very important, just nice to have if it’s there!
The MMI interface you mention; I keep forgetting to look thoroughly - it’s age! But as there’s a working 6x CD changer in the glovebox perhaps there’ll be no interface?
I’ll let you know if I have any luck but I do thank you for your help!
Best, David

Sorry for slow response - missed your post!. (1) That is the USA version, the button is the Mercedes symbol, but the same prices I mentioned before works to allow you to pair.
(2) I would not recommend any non mainstream brands, Alpine or Pioneer ..
(3) HK gives you an issue, you need a fibre optic converter (and you lose front/rear fader) or to replace the amplifier with a non HK one
Cheers
Richard

Hi Andrew,

I did buy an FM Bluetooth transmitter but it’s too large to fit into the ashtray compartment where the 12v socket is! I’ve found a smaller one and I’ll be ordering that.
I also bought from the popular auction site another Bluetooth adapter suspecting that the one inherited with the car was perhaps faulty. The new one is now in the car and paired with my phone perfectly.

Hi Richard,

thanks again for the information.
I’ve sent a couple of messages to [email protected] over the last few weeks but received no response. Any other suggestions how I can correct the settings on the analogue clock in my CLK?

David

There isn’t much room at the ashtray 12v socket, if you want to close it with the transmitter in. My A207 has a socket for the rear passengers so I used that supply and fitted an additional socket in the centre armrest. Was pretty easy to do on the e cab. The fm transmitter I bought (kit) needs to be switched on so it was handy having it in the console as I didn’t want it on show all the time. It has a usb slot on it too which acts as a charging port if I need it for the phone.

Does anyone know what cradle I need for clk w209 2007 there is some connection in the arm rest but also says phone on the stereo but not sure what to buy.

You need a Mercedes HFP adapter. Look on front page of comandonline.Co.uk for a picture.
