Hi all. My new to me 2007 S211 E550 with the multicontour seats are not functional. 12v to the pump and it runs but otherwise nothing. Anyone got a wiring diagram or simialr to help?

Just as likely to be a leak in the air supplies. Check the connections under the seats. The pump cuts out automatically if it cannot maintain air pressure.
Easiest way is to get on STAR and test the seat functions, it can pinpoint possible leaks even as far back as the air reservoir

If no one has wiring what about function?

Should the bladders inflate / motor run etc when commanded with ignition on or only running engine?

Does someneed need to be in the seat i.e occupant detected???

Its this control type....
Star also = A good Mercedes specialist. You don't need a main dealer to diagnose a seat inflation issue.
I'm sure there are plenty of good Mercedes indys in Essex that someone can recommend.

I have a deep distrust of garage quality and effectiveness learnt over time.....

Yes, you dont know what a good Independent specialist is.

And you don’t understand just how cheap a properly qualified vehicle electrician is.

Over the last two decades I haven’t needed diagnostics run very often, but half the time they’ve been free, and other times they’ve been nowhere near three figures.

Most of the time its the pump that is faulty because its worn out due to a small leak. Finding the leak is time consuming. Fixing it is also expensive. Most live with it not working due to this. Also even when there isnt a leak the pumps dont tend to last very long. IIRC the pump is about £800 too.
 
£145 for a first time fix with a good indie or “fire the parts cannon” at the car at whatever that will cost and possibly still not fix it.
have you had a look under the seats for a loose connection, broken pipe, or something obvious..

I prefer to do all work myself as the quality is to a known standard. The quote above is from a highly rated indie near me, rated by review I might add, that a friend used and was not impressed by. By your last 2 comments I guess you are definately not hands on :)

Q about operation was to aid the debugging process when working single handed,as I`m sure you appreciate, the button is at the front of the cabin and the pump is at the back......

With pump exposed (to better hear / see) no running at all from seat buttons. Pump runs when jumped directly with 12 volts. Hence question around seat occupancy requirment. I dont suppose anyone with one of these seats could help answer that? Thx.

EDit - That tiny pump cant be £800 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See my earlier comment. Why do you think that the pump would run if the seat is unoccupied?

Bear in mind that handfuls of E500's were sold in 2007 and that, of these, barely any had ventilated seats.

The arcane tech is shared with other models, such as the S, CL and GL class, but most DIYers and even MB Master technicians won't have needed to work on it. (C55 aka PCS excepted etc)

I've had five E500's and five V8 roadsters, coupes and saloons, only one of which had ventilated / multi contoured seats, which obviously i never bothered using.

A quick google shows that the pump is an unsurprising £800, but why would you think you need a pump if the one you've got runs when you connect 12v to it directly?

I dont but also dont know for sure, sounds like you dont either? It could of course be coded out by software or by hardware e.g wiring. And your comment around limited exposure and arcane nature is exactly why I am reluctant to go to a garage, indy or main!

To your 2nd point, the pump unit contains both a control board and the pump. The fact I can jump the pump doesnt exclude the control board, which obviously is only availbale as a unit.

Edit to add - I am quite tall and dont find the seats that comfortable, my prior M113 E500 was similar. So I was hopeful the contour seats might have helped improve comfort somewhat but its looking like I may never know;)

You can buy the diagrams online.


You can get as little as an hour for a few euros.
