Garage caught thrashing a Monaro by Roadhawk

When I worked in a dealer I followed a salesman in a customers CL500 in a car I had just serviced. The salesman drove sedately (not knowing I was behind) until he got to a round-about and promptly turned off the TC and drove round it sideways with smoke billowing from the tyres.

Then he stopped round a quiet road and did a HUGE burnout.

He was not at the dealer for long....

Roadhawk is a great bit of kit used it in the past for driver training, the download and overlays are brilliant and not that expensive either compared to bullet cams and a hard drive or flash drive recorder

Watching the video I recognise that garage - went to look at a B5 Audi RS4 there about 18 months ago. Something about the garage and the car didn't seem right though. I steered well clear...

had the pleasure of taking a monaro, well VXr8 round thruxton at those sorts of speeds, one hell of a car for very little money.

Using that or the right sort of telematics linked to the EOBD will give you an interesting insight into your driving style and keep tabs on what the garage might get up to.

How did they not see it attached to the dashboard?? Its not exactly discrete!

Edit: Thats if the youtube video is the actual video

Thanks for the heads up! I'll know what to look for and disconnect if anything tasty comes in!!! :D:rolleyes:

Not sure if this isn't a cleverly concocted advert for this product. Demand has been huge since this story broke. I notice they had to issue a disclaimer that the garage clearly seen at the end of the video is not the "garage" where the car was being serviced. However at that point they did seem somewhat coy to publish the name of the garage involved-maybe they have now. :dk: Hmmm--- viral marketing anyone?

OK, I am being a bit dense here. I can see the point of this kit for driver training, but why would you fit it to your own car unless you drive like a complete saint?

Everything you do, every little mistake, every time you exceed the speed limit is all there, recorded with data and video, for the police to use against you in Court :ban:

:dk:

If it was concocted then they have a case to answer with the police:doh:

Yes, but you aren't going to hand it to them, are you? How else would they get hold of it?

If you are involved in a crash, accident or stop they seize it as evidence, It's a bit like the Jag XF some models have standard fit Event Data Recorders, so if they are involved in an incident on goes the laptop and the last 30 minutes of dynamic data is downloaded to see if the Jag driver is at fault, most owners dont even know its on their car, Scary

As JB says why would you hand over evidence of any indiscretion on a plate? or even make it easy for the police to prosecute you?

Seize it from you as they would with any other evidence, particularly after an accident..... :dk:

'Handing', 'plate' and 'them' spring to mind.........Why would any driver, who likes to let's say drive with a bit of spirit, want to do that?

Edit: cross post with flanaia1
Edit2: this is a case is a good example: the driver from the garage is maybe now facing prosecution because of this
evidence.

The same way the police got info about the speed a range rover sport was travelling in the hands of a 19yr old before he rammed it into the back of a car, they interoggated the cars computer systems. Things like traction control, yaw sensors etc give info about the way the car was driven before an accidenent. I am very wary about giving them video footage in case its used to incriminate me for any road traffic offence I may be accused of.

Cue the "nothing to hide" brigade to shoot me down in flames. All I am giving is an opinion, nothing more.

Was going to also uses Ians XF example but its nicely posted by his good self. Thought it was 30secs, not 30mins. Another reason not to buy a jaguar.

I would have thought that whether the speeding incident was concocted or otherwise the driver has a case to answer with the police. Whether the data/video evidence would be admissible in court I don't know?:dk:

Actually, the more I think about this, the more bonkers it is to fit that system to your own car.

Say that was you in that car, and you were pulling up onto the garage forecourt, driving slowly, when you had an accident which wasn't your fault: maybe someone pulled out in front of you. The police turn up, see your own video evidence for the last ten plus minutes and you receive a driving ban for something you did ten munites before and 'got away with'.

The device isn't calibrated and therefore is not evidentially trustworthy, not to mention that forensic/evidential digital data rules are very very strict - you could use it as evidence but I highly doubt a competent lawyer would be unable to get it kicked out.

Things like airbag and ABS systems have been used for years in accident reconstruction though.

If discreetly mounted, it'd be a great tool in addition to a tracker. Not sure you easy it would be to fit without being visible too though.

A better product for theft would be a camera you could access via GSM/3G whenever you liked, with GPS position, linked to a tracker :D

I can imagine that a car hire company , specialising in renting out high performance/high value cars could see this as a way of safeguarding their property : rent a Porsche , Ferrari or whatever and the owners will know how you treated the car , then , if you want to hire another time , they can base their decision on the evidence .

I could imagine insurers of 'accident prone' or convicted drivers stipulating fitment of one of these devices : in the event of a claim , they simply review your driving and , if deemed irresponsible , your claim could be kicked out - of course , you'd sign up agreeing to these terms & conditions in order to get insurance .

Big brother is just around the corner .....
