is 3D lettering road legal on number plates ??

hi, looking at buyin some new plates, but wondered if 3D was road legal ? thanks

3D lettering is legal sir chumpalot. Just had a new set done by these guys Quality Acrylic Number Plates - Number Plate Makers - slightly more expensive than the usual places & you have to provide them with confirmation you own the vehicle (copy of log book), but great quality.

thanks 300ce, and just 1 last question, when i come 2 fixing the plates, i dont like the idea of making 4 holes in the rear plate... how else can i avoid this apart from buyin a frame ? :S thanks

The official regs say "Characters on a number plate can be 3D":

Displaying your registration number : Directgov - Motoring

However ... is that referring to raised characters (e.g. pressed plates) which are genuinely 3D, or "3D effect" fonts? I would suspect the former, as the latter aren't actually 3D.
